Title: chrome switches for mk5 GTi
Post by: AxeMan on May 08, 2014, 06:59:40 pm
Hey guys, the switches in my 05 Golf GTI is looking real bad due to wear n tear..
I saw on here that you can fit the chrome switches from the G6 GTi into the mk5?

My question is will it be a direct swop? Or must it be coded?
And does anyone know what the part numbers are for it? And will the part numbers be the same over here by my local VW dealer?

Part numbers I'm looking for is the following
1. Headlight switch with auto function and front/rear foglights
2. Electric mirror switch (not the fold in mirrors)
3. Main window switch in driver door (4door)
4. Window switches for passenger and rear doors
5. Petrol flap switch (I know the G6 didn't come out with it but the Passat B6 did?)

Any help or info will be greatly appreciated guys

Your local dealer should be able to pull up part numbers for you, along with telling you how much they are from VW.

Thing is with our local dealers here in SA they want the VIN number before they help you..
So no VIN number no help..
And I don't have access to a G6 GTi VIN number so thats why I thought that maybe if I can get the part numbers it would be allot easier to get somewhere with them lol..
I heard from a friend now now that the VW part numbers should be the same all over the world?

Got mine here - http://www.aliexpress.com/item/OEM-VW-Chrome-auto-Headlight-switch-rearview-side-mirror-switch-Door-window-switch-for-VW-CC/868647665.html

Set seems genuine, all VW stamps/ part numbers. Didn't do the fuel switch as it's harder to fit.

+1 on the AliExpress ones. They are manufactured in China under licence from VW so could be classed as 'OEM' and they come pretty quickly really.
I managed to fit mine without removing the door cards with a bit of wiggling!

Did you have to pay any taxes on the parcel as it comes from outside the uk?

I've imported switches, LED and other small stuff from China. They always shipped as gift and for a much lower price than what I paid, so I never paid import taxes. Is there a price that exempt import taxes in the UK as well?

Is there a link on how to remove all the switches? Do the door cards need to come off to fit the switches?

Only one that needs door card removal, or partial removal at least, is the fuel flap release. I tried the partial removal method and failed.

I used a took kit like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400831648399 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400831648399). Managed to swap the fuel flap release switch just by releasing the bottom of the door card and the rest just by removing part of the handle of the door card.

My switch set arrived today. At first glance they appear fine but the proof is in the pudding as they say and this pudding cost £36 inc P&P.

I had to ditch the mirror switch as the controls were all mixed up. Heated made then fold, left operated right. Middle did the right etc. so bought a genuine mirror one in the end. The others are fine though.

I first got a complete set of chrome switches like those, replicas, but I didn't like the placement of the symbol in the windows switches. They're too low. I only used the wing mirror switch, the rest I sold separately and made the money back.

I then ordered the switches from Bold Sport (on sale) and they're nicer and the symbol is at least 1 mm above those, so it's not covered by the door trim piece.

I did notice that the fuel flap switch was equal to the one from Bold Sport, though. No improvement there.

I already had an OEM headlight switch but the replica I sold was good too.

Just ordered a set of these today, does anyone have a link on a decent DIY to remove the trims. Or do they just pop off from the back?
