Title: RCD 510 Installation
Post by: Mullan on May 08, 2014, 08:43:32 pm
I'm looking to install an RCD510 into my golf 06 plate and I am aware I need to change the canbus gate way, just have 3 simple questions I hope you guys can answer for me

1) can someone specifically identify what canbus gateway I need and should I look towards eBay or is second hard dodgy?

2) should I look to avoid the chinese versions of the RCD510?

3) is there anyone located near bristol that could give me a hand with the vagcom side of things?

cheers guys

1) Best option is to send EDDIE-NL a Private Message as he sells pre coded Gateways - literally plug and play
2) Chinese versions of the RCD510 will not have RDS station names - best avoid
3) see point 1

Edit: he does not seem to use private message, is there a specific thread I can post in?

You'll need 2 more posts before you can PM mate. I messaged him yesterday so you're all good after 10 posts.  :happy2:

your standard aerial will be OK unless you get DAB rcd510.  MDI will be nice especially if installed in the g/box
Im sure member "demon666" will be able to help
Ipod and a decent usb stick   :happy2:

Wouldn't necessarily avoid the Chinese RCD 510, they are significantly cheaper than the EU version as can now be had for less than £100 and you gain the native USB support.

Agreed (I hope). I ordered one plus USB cable for £100 inc shipping! To go EU 510 with RDS and MMI would have been an extra £200. Since I rarely used the radio it wasn't justified. The shipment from China only took 4 days! Impressed so far and just waiting on a gateway before installing.

Sounds good, keep us posted how you get on. I'd have probably gone the same way if I didn't have the RNS
