I have the monza's fitted with 245/45-17 Goodyear Ultragrip 7.
Now i'm considering fitting the Pescara's with 225/40-18 Vredestein wintertires.
How many here are using 18" winterwheels?
What are the experiences with both types of wheels?
I find the 17" solution acceptable for the danish winter, we have 14 days of snow tops, and the rest of the time where the road is just wet i want the tire as wide as possible.
:happy2: :drinking:

Hardly anyone in the UK runs winter tyres. Well at least the England, Wales and Irish bits. We get wet roads all year round and hardly any snow in the south so we just carry on regardless when the weather turns bad & then wonder why the country grinds to a halt at the first sign of white stuff falling from the sky.

I have a set of 16" Vredestein Snowtrac tyres. I quite like them as there is so much more grip than normal.
I've never driven a GTI with larger winter tyres, sorry.

in which case Id suggest you having the best of both worlds and have a 17 inch set for snow , and an 18 inch set for most of the year. set of 17 gti wheels arent that expensive :happy2:

I've just swapped from Toyo R888's to Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's for the winter. Not specifically winter tyres, but as has already been said, we don't get too much snow round these parts
*you watch now.....8" of snow from November till March!!!!!* :scared:

As i plan to put the BBK kit on hold til spring, the 17" will stay on this winter, and the pescara's are getting fitted for next winter. New 19" summerwheels are provisionally bought so the 365mm BBK has some nice surroundings
