Hi,
Since I got the ED30 ive been trying to get my head around the different number OEM stereo unit thingys.
Basically at the minute I have the one with the blue screen, just radio and CD with an iPod dock in the glove box.
I'm after an OEM sat nav with an iPod (old style) interface. Whats the best bang for your buck on OEM sat navs? Also would i need a new iPod dock or can i use the current one? I'm not overly bothered about DAB but if its not too expensive then why not.
Also if there is anyone out there that can supply and fit that isn't to far from Northamptonshire give me a shout!

I have one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-GOLF-EOS-GOLF-JETTA-PASSAT-VW-7-HD-Car-GPS-CANBUS-DVD-Stereo-Player-/370683207626?pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item564e70dfca (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-GOLF-EOS-GOLF-JETTA-PASSAT-VW-7-HD-Car-GPS-CANBUS-DVD-Stereo-Player-/370683207626?pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item564e70dfca)
It's not OEM but looks the part and has a decent satnav and iPod interface. Very easy to fit as well plenty of guides on Youtube.
I made a quick video for someone a while back just showing what it can do etc.

If you're after a OEM one though you want a RNS 510 with a iPod connection which you buy separately. Also if your car is pre 2008 you will also need to update the can gateway.
-
It's a 2008 ED30 so I guess i wont need the can gateway.
That looks good but i want to stay OEM. Will the ipod connection i have at the minute fit the RNS510?
Cheers

yes you iPod kit will fit, but you will get much better functionality with an MDI glovebox kit

How do you mean? I would have thought iPod in the glovebox will be as functional as it comes?
-
the iPod kit you have at present is called " Volkswagen iPod adaptor" it only allows basic track listing
MDI's allow charging of your iPod/phone opening of music folders, changing tracks ect
-
I can skip through tracks on the unit i have at the minute, its got CD numbers on the side and if i press them it changes artist, it just says track 01 etc rather than the artist and track name.
Basically what ive got at the minute is a playlist on my ipod and i can skip through that once its plugged in as much as i want. I just cant search artist etc.
Is this not MDI then?
-
does it have a white plug , that goes into your iPod?
no, don't think so. the mdi can open folders, search tracks, shows artist details, charges your devise, allows swapping of leads to iPod, usb or iPhone 5 cables
-
I'll take a photo at lunch, that'll be far easier.
Thanks for your help so far!

-

Im not bothered about USB or anything, all i want is iPod. I don't use USB or AUX
-

-
Cheers for your help mate, let the shopping begin!

Hey, have you had any luck getting the new unit and putting it in?
I have the same system you had - and I'm thinking of upgrading as well, I'd just like to know how easy it was.
Also, not sure if my ipod dock is working or not - how do you switch to it on the RCD300?
Thanks.

the RNS510 also has an SD card reader so you can play your music from that instead of your ipod, which is what I do.
