Be warned if dealing with this guy, he recently purchased some Edition30 mats from me and agreed to pay the price via PayPal AND cover fees, he failed to cover fees but said he would send.
Having already packaged the mats I said I would check postage cost and if was £8 or less then would waive the shortfall, however due to size the cost was £11.99 so asked Joel to send the remaining £1.90 as agreed.......over a week later complete radio silence :fighting:
I sent the mats anyway as I didn't want to have to go back to the post office....clearly my error of judgement with this chap!!
I'm not going to worry about £1.90 but just leaves a sour taste when dealing with idiots like this that you take some trust in having bothered to register on the forum and thinking they are like minded honest people.
Have to say all others I have dealt with on the forum have been top notch honest people.
Who knows, maybe he will send eventually but felt angry enough after sending numerous e-mail reminders and out of courtesy to check the mats had arrived safely with no courtesy of a reply......he's probably too busy enjoying the £1.90 at Primark

hahahaha
I had a similar thing happen with me on a bike forum, just the principle isnt it?
The lad started to insist that I should be paying the fees, to which I said "no, you want to be protected by paypal, not me"
so in the end I just sent him the money back and 2 days later some nice bloke bought it off me for exactly what I wanted, no hassle, no twisting about £1.50 worth of fees lol

The forum needs a "Name and Shame" area.
We have the recommendations area, could we have the opposite of this? :happy2:

I'd prefer it to be called the "snidey c**ts" area lol

Dont know why you posted the mats after encountering problems so early with him...
-
I know its the princible of it but i mean come on 1quid odd
-
As said, not that bothered about the odd quid, just the principal when you're dealing with a fellow forum member.
Communication was good up until the point of agreeing the sale so had no issue to doubt their integrity at the time and as I was already at the post office and he had agreed he would send the shortfall I decided just to send.
No biggie, just wanted to share in case they start to mess others around.....take it as you please

Yeah, its a shame, you kind of assume everyone on here are like minded cool people. Its a shame there are a few that spoil it for the rest.

Thing is in reality people are laying huge amounts of trust in people that they've never met and know only by a username on an internet forum, people seem to believe that just because they're a "member" of a forum or club makes them a decent person, it sh*t but you just have to look at the world we live in, you cannot trust anyone and should always take every precaution possible, £1.90 or £190 its all still money and the principle is the same.
I was very lucky on here a while ago after selling some blinds, got the feeling to situation was going to get messy but didnt but it has left me very wary of buying or selling on here.
-
I must admit that a person from this forum gets a greater amount of trust than other persons get, i have over the 6 years i have been a member dealt with numerous persons here, and with one exception all have been worthy of my trust, this forum is in my opinion above and beyond the general standard og the Internet and IRL.
So hats of to all the good guys and girls here, keep up the good work and let's try and keep the spoiled apples out of here :notworthy:
-
i also got ripped off on here, not long after joining, and like already mentioned for some reason i felt like it was a safer place to deal with regards to trust and integrity, i was also wrong and it cost me, but again apart from this member that i still see selling on here quite regular, i've had good dealings. maybe the named and shamed would like to come forward and pay his dues, and donate a small something for the trouble too.

We will not be having a naming and shaming section. without spending a lot of time getting involved we as admin will never know the facts. and to be fair i could make up a story about richard selling me a climate control panel and it being broken when in actual fact it works really well. point being it's always going to be one sided.
we are already actively banning people from the classified sections and in two occasions, the whole site due to their conduct on the for sale boards.
we have guidelines in the sticky thread that has all of the for sale rules. if you follow the guidelines then you should be fine. certain common-sense things tend to go without saying... not posting the item until the money has been received, for example.
-
Lol I love how the admin twist on when they get asked to do extra things, but deep down they love it :congrats:
-
if you want to post up buyer beware information then of course you can do this yourself, we would monitor to stop witchhunts, but we won't be maintaining a list ourselves. usernames change etc it's too much effort.
it's not nice when people get scammed whether it's £1 or £1000 . we try to help minimise the risk by providing information designed to help mitigate the risk.
if you feel unsafe then obviously either do cash on collection/delviery, only send items once payment has been received or find another method of payment.

For those of us who spend lots of time on the forum we will see these threads come up and make a mental note of the username of the perp.
What about for those people who miss these threads and unwittingly handover some money thinking because they are on the forum then they must be OK to buy from?
If there was a specific area on the forum, it gives people chance to redeem themselves and get the full story out. The mods can than take a decision whether to ban them or not. The mods can then delete the thread if it turns out to be a massive misunderstanding??
At least all these types are posts are in one place rather than in the Mk5 General area. . . lets face it, its not easy to search for these sort of threads to help prevent getting scammed?
Just a suggestion. . . . :drinking:

Distance selling is fraught with dangers on both sides.
As a buyer: Pay with Paypal gift and you might never see the goods you paid for, and won't see your money back. Pay with bank transfer, and the same applies. If goods do turn up and they're damaged then you get stuck with the argument that "It was fine when I sent it!", or the silent treatment.
As a seller: Someone pays with Paypal with fees paid, and you send the goods. The buyer receives the goods and raises a Paypal claim for his money back using any of the possible "excuses" and Paypal side with the buyer for a partial refund or whatever. Or the case is won for a full refund and the buyer sends back a different item which they've exchanged for the good one they got through the post.
Or the other clever one is to buy something and pay for it with Paypal with fees paid, then agree to go and collect. Once collected the buyer claims that the goods haven't been sent, the seller can't provide tracking details or proof of posting, and Paypal give the buyer their money back.
By far and away the best way to buy and sell is to meet face to face and pay cash.
Having a forum section with an up to date list of scammers and bad sellers/buyers won't stop the bad people stealing from the stupid people.

By which point people have always twigged on and will automatically assume the accused is guilty.
I will chat it over with Rich and Alex... Edition has a classified disputes area.
-
I dont think we need a specific "name and shame" or "disputes section.

Just a thought Rich - what about all these disputes that were never resolved in the thread. If anyone searches for Pikey Motorsports, there's a pretty harsh thread out there. Pretty sure there is one for big Al too.
A separate section means they wouldn't get lost among the "Which DV" and the "Urgent help needed" daily threads for future reference . It also helps mods to control these conversations and they can easily be updated as they get resolved or someone gets banned. Might help deter potential scammers too if there is a maintained section about this sort of thing. Where users on other forums have been scamming, the user name can be identified in this section in case they appear on this forum.
Anyway, I'm not going to push this any harder. Up to you guys :innocent:
-
As said we've not had to deal with much of this so I don't see the need.
if we get a pm we will investigate. naming and shaming is not always the best way especially if the one being "named" is actually innocent or the situation is misunderstood. we will help out where we can but we are not in a position to be able to actively help get someones money back or an item delivered etc.
Ultimately the for sale section, as with ebay, gumtree and other owners forums, is to be used at your own risk.
