Title: Rear wheel bearing size?
Post by: topdawg on May 13, 2014, 12:49:20 pm
hi, I am in need of a new rear wheel bearing and as I am searching its clear that there are 2 main sizes for the golf, 30mm and 32mm, I have put my registration no into a checker on eurocarparts and the list of compatable ones have both the 30 and 32 mm in, anyone know of an easy way to check? thanks

there isn't a really quick way mate, you have to remove the wheel, lift the caliper up and take the brake pads out, then take the brake disc off, once done it's just the hub bolt then pull the whole bearing off, then you can measure the width of the stub axle or measure the internal diameter of the old bearing, it's not a big job, won't even take you a hour. but you'll need that special socket to remove the hub bolt.

if its a gti u have to remove the carrier to or you cant get the disk off and thats a spline bit but cant remember the size atm.
i bought mine off ebay and they asked me for my reg and sent the correct one cos i wasnt takin all that off just to measure it! lol
if i was u id buy both sizes then just return the unused one
