My 2005 1.6 FSI rattles when accelerating, mainly on 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. I think it's the timing chain, a few mechanics have said it doesn't need to be changed?
The car has 96,000 miles. Should I be worried about the rattle?
The rattle is noticeable, and it doesn't happen all the time. But just today, I stopped for 5 mins and when I drove off, the rattle started from first gear until third. It sounded like a Diesel engine.
The rattle only happens at the beginning of a gear change for like 3-4 seconds, mainly 1st, 2nd and 3rd. If it's not the timing chain, could it be the clutch or gearbox?
