Wait, it's not all bad...
Now you can make your dog sick whilst carrying an IKEA chest of drawers.

Just choose the correct wheel option!

Jesus lucky to escape unharmed! Anyone any idea what could of happened?

Dodgy welds/casting of the wheel? Poor design (focusing more on aesthetics instead of performance).
Either way, sh*t the bed! Can't help thinking this wasn't 'at speed' either as he's managed to gather most of the pieces.

Ahh didn't think about the casting of the wheel should surely go through NDT before used to make sure there's no linear defects or porosity within the wheel

lol well I thought that would be obvious, but I can imagine the damage to the car being a lot worse if he did that?

By the damage to the car it doesn't look like he was doing any great speed that's why I was confused to how this happened

That was my point. He's collected all the bits so they can't been flung too far. They also seem to have broken along the 'joins' rather than mid spoke.

Has to be a faulty alloy

Does look suspicious to be honest.
Does look like a catastrophic failure of the wheel...

Few little tweaks on that and that would be a superb "does everything" car.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about, well done VW, that would suit me down to the ground. I'll probably be able to afford one in 2022 :sad1:.
-
Jeeez, would have caused a bit of a bang :surprised:
If it was a result of inclusions within the wheel casting, then I'm sure VW will be stepping up their NDT procedures...

Pretty much what I said on the R forum, along with "if they make these in 2 years time I will be ordering one to replace the 7R hatchback", a rapid "Golf Club Carrier"
