Title: Engine Error Light - 'Efficiency Below Threshold'
Post by: Kalpsn2000 on May 21, 2014, 10:32:08 am
Hi guys

Not been on here for a while but need some advice. A couple of weeks ago the engine light came on...only just round to scanning it and the following error came up (still there after clearing).

I've seen the Ross Tech page:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16804/P0420/001056

I've had a quick look around the engine bay...but not being an expert couldn't see anything obviously wrong.

Any advice as to what is the best thing to do or check?

If all looks ok under the bonnet then I would check for a faulty lambda sensor or an issue with your cat.

Are you mapped with stage 2 or above?

You can check your sensor by going into the engine module>basic settings and choose oxygen sensor aging test bank1. If you are not mapped or stage one, do bank 2 as well.

I'm only mapped to stage 1.

Ok will try the that in VCDS. Does it come back with a pass or fail?

Thanks

You can reset the MIL light using VCDS but if the resaon it came on is that you have a de-cat or a sports cat fitted,  then it is likely to come back on again unless you get the lambda sensor mapped out or fit a lambda spacer.
