Title: heat shielding
Post by: asht42 on May 21, 2014, 10:48:48 am
Obviously with the gti, ed30 etc. the intake runs above the exhaust manifold, do you guys use heat shields on your CIA or not? And if so what is it made of?

Alex at AKS has made me a heatshield for above the exhaust manifold.  I don't know whether to cover it in heat reflective material to deflect the heat, or leave it bare and have it do more of a 'heat sink' job and it will still deflect some heat.

My previous ITG has one built into the pipe work.

See I was thinking the same, stainless or ally heat shield to absorb the excess heat then go to town on my intake pipe with reflective tape to stop any that makes it past?

Yeah I wrapped my ITG in heat reflective material but my new Revo intake is ceramic coated

Have you seen much of an advantage with the ceramic coating over the film/tape?

Do you use that one Rich? Although it's the most basic part ever I've seen some that Rub/ foul on the bulkhead

Yeah... its the one that came with the intake. Not noticed any rubbing.

No rubbing here either with Evoms heatshield.

Apart from ceramic coating (which is the most expensive, but seems to be the most effective) I saw lots of ppl use Reflect-A-GOLD (http://www.designengineering.com/category/catalog/design-engineering-inc/heat-sound-barrier/reflect-gold) from DEI.
It seems to to its job well, but doesn't look as nice as coating/heatshield.

I'm considering using the DEI or Mishimoto material aswel as the ceramic coating for a belt & braces approach lol.

I'm using the same heatsheild as rich too, haven't noticed any rubbing on the bulkhead.

Always fancied the DEI tape but £40-£50 for some tape? Is it really that good it's worth paying £50?

Always talk myself out of buy it  :sad1:

1 more thing mike,
where did you get the heat reflective tape from?
any ebay tape 50mm by say 5 meters?

I don't think it was even 5m, 2-3m from memory. It was ebay and around £15-£20

I can't say I did if I'm honest.  It must've helped & I like to do all the little bits that help

Looks kinda cool as well with the gold tape doesn't it, I recon it looks better on the EVOMS which is a whole pipe rather than mine which has 3 hoses to it lol so I'd only get about 6inches worth of gold like the ITG
