Hi
Just bought a Ed30 that was registered in October 2007
It has a RNS510 b with an old firmware I believe because the owner was not sure if the canbus needed changing.
I want to search postcodes and use a sd card so want to do the firmware update.
From what I have read, I need to update the FW to 3810a, then 4020 and apply the canbus fix (just in case I have an old one)
I also I believe I need a copy of the maps (which i do not have)?
Is this correct?
I also have a parrot 3200 fitted, will this need reconnecting after the upgrade?

Yes to get POI by SD you need 38xx or above - going to this will repartition the hard disc from 2 to 3 areas so you will lose everything on it, including maps. So you'll need a map disc.
I would just consider getting a CAN gateway, they are not too expensive or scary to change - you are much better off just changing it.
4020 is as far as you want to take a B unit really.
The Parrot should just work as normal, worst case it needs a small coding change.

Thanks, would v10 maps work then on my unit?
I am assuming yes.
-
I have them on my A. However I had to find a custom firmware that partitioned the drive into different percentages to get the V10 maps to fit, as later units have a 40GB HDD not 30GB, you may not need to do that though.
-
From my digging around I found out that 3810 did the partitioning.
Just need to get some maps then.

I went straight to 4020a and had no problems as this version repartitions the disk too. I have V10 maps installed too. I got it from http://www.rnsfirmware.com/firmware-4020-for-older-units-in-europe-with-hdd-rations-60355/ (http://www.rnsfirmware.com/firmware-4020-for-older-units-in-europe-with-hdd-rations-60355/)
The clock on the standby screen will not work with the modified firmwares due to the battery drain fix but its no real problem. I've noticed my unit runs a little slower now too but its not too bad (my unit is a verision A)

Cool, I did find that site but was unsure how good the firmware was. If you had no problems other than the clock then I will give it a try.
Where did you get the v10 maps from?
-
That is the firmware I referred to earlier, been running it for months with no problems.

You can get V10 maps either from buying them or there are various sites where you can download them although i'm not sure if its allowed to post them on here. A google search should find you a forum with them on. Obviously to use the V10 maps you will have to update as they don't seem to work with the old firmware due to space restrictions, mine seemed to continuously loop installing them until I updated.
