Evening all,
Sorry to say, the GTI is departing......
It was worth hundreds more than I paid 10mths ago so it just had to go...
Ive bought a delivery mileage 320D SE. Absolute cracking deal, I just couldnt say no.
Anyway, of all the cars Ive had over the years, none has left such an awesome impression as the GTI.
I originally did a deal on a new Scirocco 1.4 last week, until we went past the house and tried to put it in the garage - the beast is too wide! I would have had about 1cm either side to get through the door!! - so that deal was binned.
Ideally I would have bought a MK6 - but at £24K for a 5 door with Monzas, they are just too dear.
I am concerned that in the next 6mths the MK5 values will start to tumble as the MK6 hits the used market, so Ive decided to jump while mine is worth so much....its ridiculous that I can run a car for 10 mths and make hundreds in profit!!
I dont doubt I will be back on the VW wagon once the BMW has had its time but until then, bye to you all!!!
Im selling the RNS510 out of mine in the 4 sale section and I also have a genuine VW MK5 GTI service kit which I will list tomorrow - just need to check what it contains!
Thank for your help/chat over the past 10mths,
Andy :P

Cheers pal......its my 2nd BMW - first one was a 120d M sport.....nice car but just too small.
Hopefully, the 3 series will fulfill my need for speed! Its 180bhp, no not too far short of the GTI..

Nice one!!!
In all honesty, I would say to all Mk5 owners who are considering changing within the next 6 months - look at doing it now!!! Values have never been so high!
Ive been keeping a very close eye on glasses guide for the past 6mths and the values have gone up every month, apart from this month......
I think they have peaked. :happy2:
Within the next 6 mths, more and more ex demo Mk6 GTIs will hit the market meaning quite a drop in Mk5 values.
If you dont believe me - look at the more basic Mk5s - there are quite a lot of basic Mk6s hitting the market now and a basic 1.6 Mk5 went down in trade value by £270 last month!! :surprised:
Just a thought for those considering a change.......

Good advice Andy but I for one have no intention of selling my MK5 regardless of what Glass's guide is telling me. :happy2:

Cant say I blame you mate - it is a total class car.
Infact, Im dreading next week when mine gets traded in.. :sad1:
Ive swapped purely as a financial proposition....I gained some nice money on my GTI and bought the cheapest 320D deliv miles in the UK, according to BMW approved used.
Bottom line is Ive gone from a 2007 GTI to a 2009 320D for less than £5K....admittedly, I gained an extra £500 in the deal cause my local BMW dealer seriously p*ssed me about on the purchase of the 120D M Sport I had before the GTI....
still, Ive got a 2 year newer car with a similar level of handling/prestige for less than £5k.....

Cheers :happy2:
If circumstances dictate then I understand completely, but I wouldn't do it out of choice to make a quick buck!
Good luck with the new car mate! :happy2:

I was at my dealers last week and he told me that they would pay me at least £250 more than I paid for the car if I wanted to trade in and I've had mine since January .
Problem was the ony car the missus fancied was the £22k candy white mk6 on the forecourt.
Maybe next year.
Good luck with the bimmer andy :happy2:

Eww, diesel.
/sorry to be a hater, but eww, diesel.

I did the swap the other way, having got rid of my 3 series last month for my GTi. I would say the build quality of the BMW is better than the Golf, but the ride was extremely hard (I had an M Sport version running 18's).
I sold it for exactly what I'd paid for it last december which shocked me, but then I guess a low mileage diesel 3 series with all the right toys will always be a good bit of stock for any BMW dealer!
I'm happy with my GTi though I wish it didn't rattle quite so much, and the DSG seems to change gear too early when not "pushing on"!

Whats the secret???? All the dealers are only prepared to pay me £3k less than i paid 4 months ago.

They didn't even ask me when I traded in the Edition 30 .... but it was Bluefinned so I had put it back to standard
If they had of asked I would have told them - but they didn't so I didn't !

think about it another way mate. Now that you will have a BMW you wont need to give way to people anymore :P
