Title: Is This a Write Off.. Opinions From those that have had Bumps PLEASE
Post by: RedED30 on May 24, 2014, 06:34:44 pm
Renault Kangoo using an ED30 as a brake from 30(ish) MPH..

I've not had a pro check it out, but after opinions as he has missed all the crash protection and boot floor not good.

Yes, I think that's a write off.

Cat D/C?

How do you fix a boot floor? Jig or cut out and replace?

Its a write off, if only for the cost of replacing the visibly damaged panels, painting and labour, add in re-jigging and possible replacing unseen damage on a 6_7 year old car, no chance.

You might be lucky and just be able to jig it out but it's likely you'll need a new floor, crash bar and or course bumper and boot. Any other damage underneath?

My mate has just had his 05 repaired... Worse damage than that. All is not lost. He was persistent that he wanted it repaired. He got it back on wednesday.

I reckon that will be a write off for sure. Sad to say it..., I know your pain as my mkiv was killed in a similar rear accident which shunted me forward. Boot floor was crushed, and rear C pillar had a bit of a kink in it. I know it was an older car, but still, at these levels of damage, the labour and parts costs just mean automatic cat c/d...

Sorry to see this, always pains me to see a lovely VW damaged.

Have you considered your options in terms of buying it back if it's written off ?

Had similar in my 206 that was only worth about £2K at the time, just after passing my test. (Not my fault)

Car was repaired through the person at fault's insurance and had; bent boot floor needed replacing and welding, rear bumper, tailgate, rear lights, paint and labour.

I'd say your fine as it'll all be going through the Kangoo owners insurance, provided he has any.

Presume u will get a crap pay out mate??

I wouldn't want it to be repaired because when you go to sell it, it'll be listed as a cat c/d

:sad1: :sad1:

you'll proberly be asked to get 2 quotes now for the insurance company, unless they send their own insurer out to see it, make sure they quote using genuine parts and not what they refer to as white label parts (non genuine) i always have this argument with the assesors, my point being the car was fitted with genuine parts before the accident so why not be repaired to the same standard afterwards. but i would say it's non repairable through insurance, they just don't entertain structural damage such as back panel/boot floor. sorry bud. bloody nice car that.

Its a nice car and will probably be written off, but it would be worth finding out if you can buy it back and get some quotes from good recommended panel beater/ spray shop, if you bought second hand bumpers, tailgate etc it would work out quite cheap when rejigged. It looks bad but once all the bumpers etc are removed a good panel beater will be able to pull the boot floor out, if that's all the hidden damage. Ok it will be cat c/d but done right it will be as good as new.

Thanks guys it appears the general word is a write off. I have had no assessor come from the insurance yet to eyeball the car and have a chat to him about what the options are.

Yes i don't want her to be written off, i will be pushing for genuine VW parts and a repair. As for other damage than what is in the picture, there is nothing that i have seen around the rear panels or underneath.

I think/hope it might be on the border line, but from looking around the mixed bag of prices for ED30's is very confusing so it's hard to base what the cost of the repair can be (i'm guessing over 60% of cost?).

I'm happy to have her Cat C/D listed and keep her till that is it.

But lets see.

If you can get his insurers to repair it to your satisfaction then it won't be a write off. Only if they take the car and pay you out does it become written off, and if you buy it back then it comes back with the Cat C / D applied to it.

Start getting some ideas of what it's worth by looking at other cars for sale (note, save the adverts and keep looking for more in the meantime) and work out a reasonable price for yourself as to what it's worth. Then when they offer you silly money you can present them with a reasoned excuse as to why you think they're wrong. If you can get the value of your car higher up the cash scale and work to get it repaired with genuine parts then you could get it back repaired.

Personally I wouldn't buy it back as you'll never be able to sell it as it'll be cat c/d

Boot floor creases are never nice to see and its not something you can wheel into any body shop.
