Title: New business help
Post by: mortygttdi on June 05, 2014, 12:05:17 am
Hi guys I've been thinking about this long and hard but I can now see a bit of light at the end, my brother in law works for a conversion company who do all the mobility conversions but mostly vw stuff so I've asked him if he fancied putting something together and making something of it.

We will be centrally based in a large enough unit around Castleford/Leeds not sure yet? But it'll be a short distance from both m1/m62 and not too far from the a1.

We will be doing vw transport conversions plus any vag retrofitting specifically audio nav units, cruise control, basically every thing I used to do when you guys needed me :happy2: the price will be very competitive and every thing goes the only things we won't be doing is mechanical work no engines, gearboxes all that sort of thing.

What are your guys thoughts on location and if anyone's got any specific business advice then I'm all ears

Cheers guys
Darren

Hi Darren, I hope you've been well. You'd definitely have a customer in me! I've been meaning to call you actually. Hope the shoulder's better!

Hi mate yes shoulder much better, I'm just in middle of moving will be out of my house on the week ending 27th June :scared: good thing is I'll have a garage at my new house which is big enough to get round a car I think? But I also have a car space outside the garage. This will do for now until I get some premises sorted out just for the smaller stuff.

I still need to invest in some new equipment and tools, VCDS and some other stuff but hoping to be fully setup by this time next year :happy2:

+1 for Daz

He had the interior out of my Rocco, not so much as a squeak or broken clip when it all went back in..... 10/10

Get a good business bank account (Not NATWEST), don't scrimp on the website

Best of luck with it.

If you get on the T5 forum and let them know you can do cruise retrofits to the T5.1 in the north, you'll have loads of requests!

Cheers skard think I'm signed up to that, I'm on the look out at the moment for a boggo basic T5.1 with a/c or maybe a late T5 at a push has I'll be doing the front end conversions as well so doing the facelift isn't a problem.

My mate and I went to the auctions at BCA Swadlincote to get an ex RAC van that was half decent spec, but the competition for them was fierce and the price rocketed (you're talking £20k inc vat plus for a used workhorse).
Bought a basic (and I mean basic) T28 SWB for about £12k inc VAT that had 32,000 on with 16 month warranty left and we set about converting it in no time.
This is a recommended route - the CR engines are so much better and the 5.1 feels very modern, problem is though the six speed is pretty much non existant to find.

Cheers fella

Yeh I know what you mean, I was looking at some 2.0 biturbo versions and the sport lines and caravelles are stupid expensive but have you seen how much you can spec a California up to I'm sure you can easily exceed £40k :scared:

I missed out on a black 10 plate facelift which went for £9995 I'll keep looking and see what's about in a month or so

Think you will be able to save me a trip to manchester.  I'm looking to get Cruise retrofitted to my Golf.

Whereabouts in Cas-Vegas are you going?

If anything crops up or I know anyone who needs anything doing I'll certainly put them your way Darren.  Although not a long time member, the info I've taken from some of the threads you've been involved in has been invaluable.  :happy2:  :drinking:

Cheers Russ may well call on your services :happy2:

I'll be moving yo a new development called navigation point, the wife picked the location has she wanted to be totally away from this area new start an all that.

I'm hoping I can find a unit on the Allerton Bywater ind estate? Nice and big and a good location from all major m/ways

I won't be doing very much for the upcoming months need to get into the new house and the developer has got some strict rules set into the deeds :innocent: :P rules are there to be broken though  not sure what other developments are like but my car is to be kept in the garage or on the parking space provided and no parking in front of the house? No sky dishes or wires on the outside of the house! No this no that I'm sure I'm going to love it but it's like a prison

A bloke near me lived in a listed building and wanted Sky, but they told him no satellite dish on the house. So he stuck a pole in the garden and mounted the dish on that. Nothing they could do about it.

I was round at the development last week and spied that someone had put a sat dish on the fence  after all it doesn't specify the fence just say the house :happy2:
