As above, need a top up so went into tescos to grab a 1L bottle of castrol edge..poured it into my engine & realised its turbo diesel castrol edge...is it ok?
-
NO ITS GONNA BLOW!!!
It'll be fine mate, these things happen.
-
It'll develop more torque now, and your mpg will improve dramatically. Also, you might see some black smoke out of the exhaust occasionally under hard acceleration.
-
Still drop the oil though
-
It won't need to be dropped most manufacturers fully synthetic oils are identical formulas for petrol and Diesel engines , 99% sure castrols are , contact opie oils he will tell you just that mate
-
I'd drop the Castrol out and put decent oil in.

That's the 'Castrol Edge for PD Engines'
-
If the bottle label indicates it's VW504 or VW507 spec then you'll be ok.
-
I'd drop the oil & get the correct oil for own peace of mind. :happy2:
-
yeah as above I wouldn't worry about it for the time being but just drop it and replace when you get chance
-
A 'top up' of 1 litre?!

A 'top up' of 1 litre?!
I'm guessing he didn't mean 'poured it' as 'poured it all', otherwise he'd probably posting about a different problem...
-
1litre out of 5 will be slightly different, it's going to make no difference at all. My mate put 1/2 a litre of fairy liquid in his 106 diesel as his dad had used the oil container for it
It's not worth spending £50-80 on a complete oil change to fix something that isn't going to do any harm :happy2:

^^^^
Did he get bubbles out the tail pipes ?

Out of the oil filler cap :signLOL:

Most car manufacturers use the same oil in both petrol and diesel. Ford have the same oil in both engines. Even a tiny amount of the wrong grade oil won't hurt the engine as it just mixes in with the other. Id just change the oil at the next scheduled service.

If it was my car, I'd drop the oil. Our engines aren't notorious for sludge, but if anything is gonna help it along 2 different types of oil will.
I don't think the risk is too big if they were both fully synth but better safe than sorry. When is the next change due?

In that case, get it changed. Especially considering how susceptible to sludge the oil pick up is.
