Has anyone on here drilled for example 100mm holes in there bonnet to cool the bay down?
Just come back from Si-R32's place, about 50 minutes drive at 70-80mph and my engine bay is like a volcanoe
Or something like them triangle things you see on the tele fitted to the bonnet to get tonnes of cold air into the bay
I haven't got the slit east clue how to photoshop but I recon focus rs style grills would look okay to the sides of the bonnet

Are you showing as over heating on your gauge??
-
Work in progress

Still needs painting hope to sort soon. They are fiesta rs turbo vents, did look at the square mk2 focus items.

No gauge is spot on, engine bay is always mega hot.
There's no issues with the car at all and I've checked a few other mk5's at meets aswell. All travelled roughly the same distance and the same temp bays.
I would personally like mine cooler, I do like your bonnet mate  ^ second picture has me sold with the idea if you don't mind me coping
-
It really suits that colour ! Very much like an RS, So now looks like an RSGTI" :happy2:
-
Think somebody on here did vents on a carbon bonnet too? Maybe hurdy?
-
I thought vents would looks the nuts on a mk5 :P defo going to do this!
side where did you get the vents and how hard was it to cut and bond them in place
-
Used a fiesta rs turbo bonnet, cut the vent frame out leaving 15mm of bonnet left and slow cut the wholes in till the right size and they have been spot welded up underneath. Just take your time, followed a mk1 rs fitment guide a lad did.
Will get some pics from underneath.

Thanks mate that would be great :happy2: I'm defo doing this, looking at ducts and fitment online now :P

Simon
that looks insane mate. JEALOUS!
-
I cant see those grills making a jot of difference to cooling
-
As above, Not sure on the efficiency either but I'd like to be proven wrong. Not sure if it would be best to get air into the bay to aid cooling (if such a thing would help) or to get the hot air out quicker.
"If" I decide to add a carbon bonnet this it the one I'd go for......
C/F FTW.....

I'm pretty sure NeilM has one on his track puppy and it looks the business. :happy2:
-
Can you get the kits for the bonnet hinges that make the bonnet sit higher at the back to let the hot air out?
-
Had to double check there, as I thought I'd logged into corsaboi.co.uk by mistake... :jumping:

Good, I'm not the only one then.
-
I'll obviously have to do more research into what's best and what style duct works better for getting hot air out best. Was just seeing if anyone had done it before. Bigger vents should work better than narrower ones

Got a better idea on how to get the hot air out easier?
-
Because race car lol
Forgot the average age on the forum was 67!!! Lmao
Ideally the closer to the front is better but not possible due to the internal webbing, high pressure at rear and low near the front due to the air coming off the front of the car. Again the fiesta vents where chosen with shape in mind and trying to match with the curves of the car. Gurney flaps would help no end but it ain't a race car so not bothering. Heat does rise out if there a lot and at low speed should work perfectly high speeds another story, anyway my car do what I like.
Just off up tesco to cruz init!!!?!
-
Yeah I was just looking underneath mine and thought there's only really 1 place to locate them.

Just seems like a solution to a problem which isn't really a problem.

Personally fella I like em

Something different. Looks aggressive!

I like the look of the triangle shaped ones that are angled to the side best :happy2:

Well as you have asked he he:
removed advertising
More are available, I just haven't got around to listing them yet.
If this breaks any forum rules then please let me know and I will take the post straight down. I have asked for details of what's involved with being a trader and I'm waiting for some details.

I've only just started listing VW bits since buying my MK5 but I've never had any fitment issues with all of the other bonnets I've done for the Evo's etc.
-

I'm not sure it breaks any forum rules or not, but you appear to be exaggerating your prices somewhat. See here for the Eurolineas bonnet: - http://www.limitlessmodz.com/volkswagen/1566-golf-v-vented-bonnet.html which you seem to be selling at £650 while your competitor is selling it some £210 cheaper. Admittedly, they charge shipping at £25 which brings the discrepancy down to £185, but a cynic would suggest that you simply order them from there and ship them on at a profit.
As for the Seibon carbon fibre bonnet, that's a little trickier. However, the official UK importer sells these on Ebay for about the same price as you, with the added bonus that if you send him money there's a very good chance you might actually end up with what you paid for, rather than sending neck end of a months wages (for some people) to a random newbie on a forum so he can possibly disappear with hard earned monies.
Of course, in no way am I implying that this is the case with you, just pointing out how very easy it is to get sucked into scams simply because it's on an internet forum so it must be okay. Always willing to be proved wrong of course...

I understand what you mean as carbon isn't cheap and people want to be confident they aren't going to lose their hard earned cash.
Although I'm very new to the VW comminuty, I've been in the Evo community for almost 3 years now. Please feel free to have a look on the MLR if you would like to esearch my company:
www.lancerregister.com
With regards to Eurolineas I go on an RRP so I'm not sure how the other retailer is doing that, although I'd love to know.
I am an authorised Seibon dealer but not the main dealer, although you still get the full Seibon warranty as I'm an authorised dealer.
Basically I am a central hub for carbon where you can find lots of different brands in one place. I also have some items made for me which are only available from me. There is nothing for the Golf at the minute but there is always an option to develop new items if there is a demand for it.
Cheers
Rick

Do you do anything for Vauxhalls, specifically Astras by any chance?

I can get some stuff. What year are you wanting it for and is there anything in particular?
I think I've worked out what the other retailer has done with their price and they might get a shock when they sell an item. I would lose money at that price and I don't think there are different trade prices for different retailers.
-
Well I dropped the other seller a line and asked him to confirm the price was correct, as one of his competitors seemed to be way over the top of his price. He went and checked, and just got back to me with a confirmation that his prices on the website are "current and correct" (his exact wording). So why are you so expensive?

The only thing I can think is they are getting a different price to me as I would seriously lose money at that price.
Working prices out from this manufacturer can be quite confusing and if they have the same prices as me then they would be in for a nasty shock when they come to pay for it.

Would removing the gasket at the scuttle not aid alot threw the front vent not sure if it would affect water when parked up

How about removing the fog lights and using some 2-3" ducting run them up to the engine bay
