How long roughly should rear shocks last, I know it depends on type of road you have driven on, but just a rough idea. My ride has become very crashy and stiff feeling, like the springs are not compressing properly, I thought shocks always went soft rather than hard when failing?
I do have uprated roll bars, but still, the ride when going over bumps can be very harsh. And sometime it sounds like my boot is open. But its fully shut and no movement at all.
MK6 GTI with 55k on the clock.
Any ideas?

Hi there
Just an idea for a simple thing to check but have you checked the rear springs for snapped coils/fractures? If you have a snapped coil the car can ride poorly as the spring can't compress normally.
Hope this helps!

No i think both springs are fine, think im gonna take the shocks out and compress them and see how fast they return to normal position.

Fingers crossed then that it's a simple fix. General rule of thumb is that shocks are often past their best when you get beyond 50k as they have a hard life - the rears inparticular.

I know, but usually they go soft and sloppy, not hard and stiff. I just cant see it being the roll bard that has made it this stiff, even a small bump can be harsh

Did you resolve this?
