Looking to upgrade my stereo. Currently have the RCD 500 mp3 6 cd changer with the ipod connection in the glove box.
I've looked around and there's so many that I've confused myself (easily done!) so looking for suggestions. I'd prefer to keep it oem but will consider other makes.
The main issue is that my iPhone doesn't work with the current stereo so would like one that's compatible either with a usb lead or bluettoth, would also like built in hands free (if this is even possible?) and maybe sat nav.
I'm looking to spend around £500, any suggestions are welcome.

as a start maybe withRCD310 £100 or less on ebay , new can gateway from eddy-nl and fit an MDI kit (i sell them) :happy2:
you would be up and running for less than £300
-
RCD 510 for about the same price is a good option at the moment as it won't need an MDI kit for USB if you go with the Delphi version - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,84224.0.html coming in at about £150 for all the bits
RNS 310 is good for Nav and doesn't need a canbus update unlike the others, but won't have Bluetooth or USB so you'd have to stick to SD card for tunes. Costs £200 - £300 from eBay.

Thanks guys, the RCD 510 seems great value although doesn't have sat nav. Does that have built in hands free capability?
One other thing i forgot to mention is that I'd want it to work with MFSW

It's doesn't. You would be looking more in the £500 area for a sat nav. Blue tooth would be another add on, there is one on the for sale area for £60 that will work. You would need a loom aswell.
The vw head units will work with your MFSW

Ace, thanks for the help. It's becoming a lot clearer now.
Think I'll go for the RCD 510 with a Bluetooth kit to start with as sat nav isn't essential.
I can't seem to find a bluetooth kit in the for sale section for £60. Can see this one though: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,84710.0.html
Is that one good value, a quick google search tells me you can get these new for £200?

The one in the link above is the one you want. It's the one I have and it works a treat paired with my IPhone with my RCD510 DAB.

Seller states only suitable for the white Highline display. Might be important.

So I think I might have made a small mistake here...
So far I've bought, an RCD510 (UK), Pre coded gateway and a usb switch/cable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-USB-Switch-Cable-fit-for-RCD300-RCD510-VW-GOLF-MK6-JETTA-MK5-Vento-08-13-/201059403062?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ed0130536
Since I haven't bought one of the delphi units, I can't just connect my iphone via the cable for it to work as I thought so I'm trying to work out my options which I think are:
1. Buy an MDI kit to allow me to connect my phone (I already have an ipod lead in the glove box with the rcd500 - I guess I won't be able to use this?)
2. Buy an aux cable ( I think this will work but unsure of the functionality?)
3. Just buy a Bluetooth module.
Think that's about it, basically all I want is to be able to charge my phone, play music from it through the RCD510 and be able to select tracks etc via the unit.
Help :surprised:
-
where does that lead plug into the rcd510?
I don't remember a round socket on the back last time I had it out?

most people use an mdi kit which is prebuilt into the loom
-
the AUX is a quadlock, so same as the cd changer

That USB plug you've bought won't work with a European RCD 510, they are only suitable for the Chinese version. You'll need an MDI
