Title: Service cost
Post by: Mitch199024 on June 13, 2014, 08:22:07 pm
Looking at getting my ed30 serviced soon.

Needs a service, a dsg oil change, cambelt and water pump.

I'm also considering the oil pick up and the cam follower.

What sort of price am I looking at for this ?

Cheers

If your dealer wants the work, they'd honour that price.

Well what am I comparing it to??

Can hardly say to them 'someone on the net reckons they can get it done for 300'

Well that's the price I was given when I asked them for their best price. Would depend on the dealer I guess and how much they value your custom.

Don't forget they price match too with local garages within a certain radius, using genuine parts.

U can do the cam follower urself it's easy there's a vid on utube on how to do it , vw charge around 420 for a cambelt and pump , a major service around 200 , dsg for about 160. I remember when I got a quote last year they wanted close to 800

I just got quoted 300 from Bromley VW for a major. But I don't need spark plugs and i'll bring my own oil. Asked the 'service receptionist' what would the price be less these bits she said she don't know. Sometimes I wonder  :signLOL:

Im all for getting a decent price on servicing but regardless of whether my local VW dealership could could match my local specialist or not, i still wouldn't take it to the dealers!
Be it at full price or price match, can you say hand on heart that the dealers offer the same level of care as a decent VAG specialist?

For me, there comes a point where the quality of service / level of care outweigh any cost savings you might get through getting your dealer price matching local garages.

IMO our cars deserve the best TLC you can afford - at the dealers it's just another car for the service guys to get in and out as quick as humanly possible in order them to achieve their bonus.

I've always had good expirences with AmD, but when I used a dealer they did a decent enough job.

Ultimately, for major service, can follower and even oil pick up, I'd strongly recommend getting on YouTube and a Haynes manual and doing it yourself. Save loads of cash and learn more about your car, which stops garages ripping you off.

Following on from richtung's comment, I do a lot of work myself because then I know exactly what's been fitted and that proper methods are followed.
