Title: Rough value of mk5 GTI?
Post by: TDIfurby on October 23, 2009, 10:38:02 pm
Well, time is coming on, and my Dad has been dropping hints he wants to sell his mk5 GTI and move on to something else, probably one of the newer mk6 diesels, but he's not sure.  Question is, what is his GTI probably worth?  The Glass's guide suggests the following:

Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition:
 Â£10950
 Average condition:
 Â£9760
 Below average condition:
 Â£8580

Now the car will be in excellent condition when sold as I will personally detail it beforehand.  It has nigh on 60,000 miles on the clock and is on a 56 plate.  In black, standard GTI equipment, with no optional extras to my knowledge.  Do you think advertising it for around the £12,500 mark is fair?   Interested to know what similar spec/age/mileage cars have sold for recently.

Hi Jase,
I think your Dad's best bet (unless he gets any good offers off here!) would be a part/ex.
I recently got over £10k against a mk6 GTI for a 49k 54 plate GTI. This time last year I would have struggled to get £8k I reckon.

Decent sell-able used VWs are in very short supply right now so a dealer would your Pa's hand off for that car. He probably wouldn't get much discount off the TDI anyway so may as well hold out for a stonking part/ex price on the GTI.

How're those Evolos holding up anyway?

Very nicely.  Now have six of them, with the best condition four being on the car now, with 2 spares in case I trash one badly at some point.  Still my favourite wheel and always on the lookout for spares on Ebay.  Rarely see them though! :(
