I am beginning to get really excited about driving the GTI to Estonia again next week  I have done it a couple of times before and last time got all the way to the border with Russia! That was nearly 1500 miles driving and about a 15 hour ferry trip to get there. Just wondering what the furthest place anyone has taken their GTI to is? Has anyone gone further? Would be interesting to know.

I don't think anyone can match yours HOMESQUEEZE
I've done Crewe (Cheshire) to Inverness in my old k03 GTI. 430 miles, took about 12hrs with all the slow winding Scottish roads.
Trip Display said I had 80 miles of fuel remaining too
-
Took my old mkiv to the Stelvio pass - would love to do the same in my ED30!
Can't beat a good roadtrip!
-
~380miles. Edinburgh to Inverness and back.
-
400 miles Midlands to Portsmouth and back to see Carl to do my cruise control, with a stop in London on the way up :happy2:
Cost me £75 IIRC and hit 42.8 mpg, those days are gone with the A3 CR TDI - could probably do it on £35 now
-
No where near as far but bought my ed30 a couple of months ago from Dover. Had the fun of driving it back to Yorkshire.

I've done road trips over the alps. Travelling through France Germany Switzerland Italy Austria. About 2000 plus miles in 6 days. Done it over different roads three years running. Brilliant fun. Furthest part of journey each time was Zurich to home, 13 hour drive including the ferry. A lot of driving but the gti is comfy and with cruise control and dsg it was done with ease. :driver:

I got as far as Italy in mine :happy2:
-
Paderborn, Germany to Rotherham, S. Yorks and back.
Matt ed30 has been around Europe as has Alex at AKS :driver:
-
arse end of cornwall to London
-
From where I live in Cork, Ireland to my home town just outside Exeter, Devon. 600 mile round trip
-
My Signature picture is from the French Alps near Veynes. The furthest I've been in it.
-
Sheffield to the Nurburgring a few times. one also took in a detour to Spa for a trackday.
-
Not sure if this counts, but in the late 80's I drove my Mk1 GTi from Cape Town to Mombasa totalling 5297 kilometres or 3291 miles :driver:
-
Just remembered. I did harrow to Aberdeen a few years ago. That's about 525 miles.
-
Furthest I drove mine was the 220 mile trip home after picking it up!
Had the missus in her car behind me the whole way but she wanted me to stay close to her on the motorway. That was a painful drive... having to keep the car at 70mph after just picking the thing up!!
-
In one go I've only done 170 miles but I haven't had the car that long. Hoping to take it to Le Mans or the Nurburgring some day.

Both sh*tholes.
I've done 15k in my Mk5, not in one journey though :signLOL: :signLOL:
Furthest was about 650 miles in one day but that was mental.. Went from my house to Liverpool then to Bournemouth then back to my house.
-
From Oxford to Loch Lomond, or the other way to Isle of Wight :happy2:
-
Thanks for the replies guys :happy2: There's some good road trips going on there! Probably quite obvious but I i'm not driving the 1500 miles all in one go, takes about three days  Including driving around in Estonia, it's close to a 4k round trip. I hope petrol prices are good in Europe at the moment!!

That's a good drive! I agree, the GTI is a great car for long cruises. First time I did the drive I didn't have cruise control though and that was a bit harsh. Got cruise fitted before I did the next trip and it was so much better!

Yep, i'll give you that one, it's still a GTI after all. Cool trip.

Not very exotic, but I tip my hat to you for that one! That's a hell of a drive in a day!

Cape town to Mombasa must be the winner. That must have been awesome on so many levels (and scary)
Leicestershire to Crieff in Scotland and back is the furthest. About 750 round trip
-
London to Oxford for a trackday = 60 miles then on from Oxford to Pembrokshire for the family holiday = 190 miles so 250 mile trip with a few miles in some 'exotics' thrown in between

South of France in the drome region on me tod and back again, about 1800 miles, downside was keening a wheel at a toll booth... Meh
