Title: Tyre Inflator
Post by: Makaveli on October 24, 2009, 09:22:28 pm
Can anyone recommend a tyre inflator, I have been looking to get one for a while and the ones in Halfords don’t look the best quality. Any recommendations?

I bought the middle of the range halfords jobbie, it does the job with a digital gauge and auto cut off and LED light.  It also has a few adapters for balls etc.  Its acurate enough for daily use but I always double check with my analogue gauge.  I mainly bought this for track days as tyre pressures need constant monitoring/adjustment.

I've never liked the electronic ones as they make an awful racket when trying to inflate the tyres at night! So I stuck to a foot pump which worked fantastically until it broke!

Ah actually mine was a lifesaver at the ring thanks to my over enthusiastic pressure drop, they are a little noisy but at least both my calf muscles are the same size  :signLOL:

So are mine! Used to use one leg for two wheels so built them up symmetrically!

I bought the Michelin one from halfords (around £40-£50) it seems ok but its annoying as you set it to go to 2.5 Bar and it always stops .5 short at 2.45. It also reads differently to my seperate michelin tyre guage by about .2 so hard to judge which one is right.

I would get the halfords one if i did it again as i dont think the michelin is worth the extra money (though it does feel better quality).

Maybe its the portable guage that isnt too accurate,

I never get up early enough so I don't have time in the mornings and by the time I return home, the tyres are still warm, so waiting for them to cool down takes me into the evening.
