Title: common fuel line rattle
Post by: Danbear79 on June 19, 2014, 02:49:27 pm
Afternoon everyone. Last night after a spirited drive down my local lanes, I came to a set of traffic lights and could hear a rattle noise which sounded like it was coming from being the dash/steering wheel. It wasn't until this morning I noticed the noise was right below my drivers seat. Luckily I was aware about this issue, so I set about sorting it out. I'm writing this just because it's really easy to sort out yourself instead of wasting your time at a dealer.  8 plastic nuts and 2 screws later the panel was off and I could see where the hoses were rubbing. I padded it with some foam and the problem has gone. It took about 30 minutes to do in total and really easy. Happy days :driver:

Hi mate. There's a panel under the drivers side that is about 4 foit long and 2 foot wide. Really simple to do, but make sure you use axle stands and a decent jack if possible :)

Its an annoying ticking/tapping noise at idle... Had it on my Leon too.

I get this occasionally on my mk6 at the lights. If I rev the car even slightly then it goes away. If I start driving it goes away. Cant really hear the ticking outside but I can in the car and quite loud at times.

You all rekon its a fuel line rattle? I thought it might have been a heat shield or similar metal panelling which got loose and vibrating and resonating into the interior.

Cheers

Sounds identical to what mine did mate. To anyone who goes ahead and checks for this, what I did was have the car running and hold the suspect fuel lines with your hand. You'll notice the noise goes away as soon as you touch them. Keep the drives door open and you'll notice the noise goes away from inside the car :happy2:

Cheers
