Title: What have you done to your engine cover?
Post by: Arnoldc1990 on June 23, 2014, 12:16:41 am
Hey guys,
Want to spray mine but want to see what some have done for inspiration.
Also how to get the best results when spraying? What processes I need to do etc
Cheers
Look forward to seeing some engine covers

^^^^  :signLOL:

There are some great modded OEM around.

Plastic primer, then paint, both Matt and Gloss will be fine, I've used both. If you want a super smooth finish then either filler or 3 to 4 layers of primer, lots of sanding and 3 to 4 top coats.

My modified Audi TTS cover....

TTS one looks great. My original cover is collecting dust after purchasing MTC Intake.

Probably a silly question... Do the tts covers go straight onto the mk5 gti?

^^^^ Yeap, you'll just need a few bolts. For part numbers, check me build thread, page 1 IIRC.  :happy2:

Iv gone for the TTS cover too and imho looks great.  Going to keep the main part silver, the insert is still a work in progress but this is what it looks like so far....

Was my inspiration - I'm struggling getting the red lines crisp enough. Done so much block sanding I don't think I have finger prints at the moment!

^^^^ Fair plat to you it looks the dingles.

I wouldn't have the skill or patience so it would be off to the bodyshop!

Not sure I do at the moment either! The ED30 badge is recessed where the Audi badge was and looks ok but the edge of the gloss red to matte black ain't quite right yet. Need to sort that out before blocking the TFSI raised lettering back to white. If it works out should look smart.

Actually finished it! The oil cap still isn't right but I'll get round to sorting that out sometime......

That cover does look smart! How do you get the r8 cap to sit properly? Mines on an angle

Thank you for your kind words  :drinking:

The R8 cap still isn't quite right and does sit at a slight angle when viewed straight on (I took the photo to one side on purpose ) With the cap off turn it upside down and you'll see a clip which can be worked free then the cap separates into 3 (can't remember exactly) pieces. One piece has a turret design which keys into the top bit. Turn a few turrets and reassemble until it sits how how want it to.
