Title: Chinese Bluetooth unit
Post by: usmangti on June 23, 2014, 11:20:16 pm
What is the difference between this;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-Bluetooth-Interface-Module-9W2-FOR-VW-Volkswagen-RNS510-RCD510-1K8-035-730-D-/310782526885?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item485c1505a5

And the ones that crop up on here for 4x the price?

I'm considering one if it can provide handsfree calling and music streaming.

It's not enhanced VW bluetooth. You can not dial or pick up phone from your radio touchscreen. You will have to use your phone  or multi functional steering wheel to call out or pick up phone calls. Hence why Ehanced VW bluetooth costs considerably more.

My advice is to avoid  :happy2:

Thanks for the feedback. :happy2:
I quite like the idea of using the steering controls, does that mean it will display telephone book on the MFD?
there's so many Bluetooth module threads, would be awesome for someone with the knowledge to breakdown it down part number and features if you know what I mean

I don't think this will display on your MFD.
This is a very basic bluetooth module with limited controls, it will work with the MFSW in terms of answering or cancelling a call but that's it. You will have to use your phone for selecting who to call which defeats the purpose of Bluetooth to a certain extent.

Your options are to buy an older VW Bluetooth kit compatible with redline as the newer ones are not or the Fiscon kit which if I was you I would go for.  The Fiscon also gives you an added display in your menu which shows oil temp and other features.

You need to check thou what limitations may impact on you should you be using a lowline display

Yeah your right it's pointless if can't select contacts or dial numbers.

Also didn't realise fiscon had Bluetooth features I thought it was just the added temp and boost gauges!

I will have a highline MFD fitted very soon :happy2: red display (red dot?)

Haven't seen these cheap Bluetooth units from China before. You are right that they normally cost a lot more, even used ones are £100+

Wonder if they would definitely support EU head units or if its restricted to the similarly cheap Chinese market RCD 510

The phone modules are the very basic

You need a highline to use them and you need to be able to do the wiring too

Had some come to me to who bought one and had the local garage fit it

wiring was all wrong and when I sorted that had to tell them they needed a highline which they didn't have.

So best avoided, cheapest is not always best
