Hey guys,
On my way home tonight I heard a grinding noise, cant really describe the noise as such but stops under braking. Am I right to believe that this is actually coming from the brakes???
The only thing I can think of is a stone chipping has lodged itself somewhere as the other night I had to unfortunately drive over a freshly chipped road as they were laying it down, only doing about 5mph but you can imagine the pain I was going through having to do this. Is it likely one of those horrible stones got wedged somewhere and is grinding away at some metal somewhere? Only a quick inspection on the brakes as I stopped the car and the discs look fine thinking it was in the pad somewhere.
Any help is much appreciated
Thanks

Could check your dust shields. Mine came looses and started scraping off the disc. Sounded like the most unholy sounded ever and definitely not one you would associate with a gti! A bit like your exhaust is scraping along the floor

What Dan said. Even a bit of gravel between the rotor & dust shield can sound horrendous :scared:

Grinding noise which goes when brakes are applied is a bit odd, my advise is get it checked out ASAP.

Yes i remember having this noise also. Tapped all four dust shields and also tried reversing back 10 yards or so dunno if that helped but mine went away after that!

I've had stones get between the dust shield and brakes, made a god awful sound! Fixed by reversing a little for the stone to fall out

I had the stone in the dust shields when I came off the road and sounds like a train stopping all of a sudden. This noise isn't as severe as that but will check the dust shields etc.
