Title: Mikes R32
Post by: m1k3ydu8 on June 29, 2014, 12:22:12 am
Hi all,

I've been on here a while now thought it was about time to show my car. After spending months looking at GTI's which I was planning on getting. I had a serious itch for a R32 and when this one popped up local one Friday I went to the showroom on the Saturday morning I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and heard it, although the car was a bit rough around the edges with car park dings and a lot scratches on the rear bumper from the previous owners dog. The garage was going to get the paintwork sorted by a local firm they usually use but managed to get a bottom half respray from VW at the garages expense, unfortunately it ended taking 3 weeks.

I have done a few minor bits n bobs, future plans are: KW coils, APR exhaust, TSW Nurburgring wheels, RNS 510, Carbon goodies etc. But they'll have to wait until the cars paid off.

Some pics for now.

Looks really tidy mate, good work getting the respray thrown in as well as that could have been costly to get right.

If you're into carbon goodies I saw a little while back somebody had the lower part of the rear bumper (the plastic bit around the exhausts) made from carbon fibre or carbon dipped, that looked really smart, although I bet its expensive.

How much did the carbon wrap cost to be done?
Was thinking getting the same on my ED30 along with a few other bits. Don't wanna go OTT on it mind.

Thanks again for the comments  :happy2: I have been looking at rear valance made from carbon fibre and they are very expensive, not sure how much for it getting dipped. For the carbon wrap only cost me for the vinyl as I wrapped myself. It's surprising easy to do.

I've seen the vinyls on eBay but I'm scared of doing it myself, I can barely put a screen protector on my phone without bodging that up!

Did you follow any guides on anything or jump head first into it? You've done a decent job on it!

She looks a beauty.

I've had (hydro dipped) a load of interior and exterior parts on my car in C/F effect, spoke to the chap who's done my stuff recently about C/F dipping my R32 diffuser, a wee bit big to be done but he wants to look at it and see. Once it's been painted, dipped and lacquered you'll be looking at between £80-£150. Look on my build thread for pics of their work.

Have a look at BCS for an exhaust, be it a TBE or Cat back, their quality is incredible and their selection of R32 pipes look the dingles.

Happy modding!

Not much of a update. managed to talk my mum n dad into buying me a DA polisher as a early birthday present. Hopefully in next couple of weeks going to get metal/chromed light, mirror and window switches depending on how much money I have left after paying the road tax :scared:

The new toy.

How did you find the da pro and auto finesse kit?
I got the same gear through the post the other day.

Thanks for the comments. DA kit was off cleanyourcar. Paying the tax this weekend  :sad1: Hopefully going to have enough pennies left to buy window & light switches. As much as I like Milltek exhaust Personally I think there a little raspy I prefer Scorpion exhaust as they have a deeper burble. Got a quick video of doing my new favourite activity .

Finally got around to buying the chrome switches as the old ones were poop. Also got a tyre valve replaced that had a slow leak but the garage I took it took didn't put the wheel nut covers back on  Got a list of jobs that need doing: New rear discs n pads, parcel shelf replacing, top air vent replacing.

Thanks for the comments. The switches are off ebay and are a bit fiddly to fit. a little progress has been made, the rear discs n pads are getting replaced next friday by a vw specialist, costing £265 with genuine vw parts. Also prepped the paint for winter with gtechniq exo v2.

Thanks, had the rear disc n pads changed. brakes feel a lot better now, had a problem with the drivers side caliper piston due to corrosion it wouldn't screw back in :fighting:. In the end the caliper had to be removed luckily scotch brite removed the corrosion and the piston screwed in fine instead of a new caliper.

There's an awful amount of corrosion judging by your pictures. I'd be checking the caliper and lines for fluid leak as this could be what's causing all that paint to flake off. The caliper does look better for a lick of paint though.

I did check the caliper and lines for leaks there isn't any leaks, I think corrosion had just set into that 1 caliper. The caliper carrier on that corner was in good condition and the other the other 3 calipers were fine. I'm going to replace that caliper in the new year.

So it's been a while since since my last update not really done many things over winter due to an expensive crimbo also lost the love even thought about selling up. In March it was service time after been serviced the love started to come back as it felt much smoother and responsive. Yesterday woke up to a flat tyre which was changed in January I could of cried after taking the wheel off found it was the inside bead which was the cause of the leak and has now being fixed. Today made a start on refurbing the wheels.

Couldn't wait to re-fit them.

Finally got around to giving the 32 a proper wash (the first time since November). The paint work was looking faded and flat, Now the paint has got its shine back.
The method I used:
Wheels: rinse, cleaned using iron X & various brushes, rinse.
Paint work: rinse, Autobrite snow foam, rinse, 2 bucket method, clay cloth, rinse, dried with a MF & aid of Meguiars QD, hand polished using autoglym polish finally waxed with collinite 476.
There are some fine swirl marks left but nothing too bad a going over with DA wont solve. Got a couple of pictures of the end result but they don't do they paint justice due to my camera skills bag being empty.

Thanks. Last few weeks have been abit up and down. firstly the good bought some black aluminium dsg paddles extensions they feel alot better quality and look a whole lot better than the old paddles. Now the negative last week whilst been blinded by the sun and fumbling around trying to put sunglasses on I managed to kerb a wheel.

I am going to touch up the wheel this weekend but im not sure what to do about the wheels, whether to have them professionally refurbished or buy some new wheels as 1 of the wheels is buckled anyway and has a slow leak around the bead due to corrosion.

Evening all, a mini update of up's and down's. Suppose I'll start with the poo part of the update another screw punctured a tyre, that's the 5th one now  I'm convinced my tyres have magnets in them, Luckily managed to repair it myself. On to the positives, finally got around to touching up the extra large chip on the drivers door sill which has been there since I got the car, it's not 100% but its a damn sight better than it was. On another good note passed its MOT today with no advisories  :happy2:.

Been a while since I've updated the topic, as I've been spending some pennies on the 32 recently thought it was about time to do an update. Decided the interior needed some more shiny bits in the form of a bottle opener and climate control dial surrounds. also bought an ITG air filter to add a little bit more noise. Got the wheels all pointing back in the right direction again after an alignment. Took it to main dealers for a service plus brake fluid change. Have got a bit of an issue with the paint on drivers side front wing and passenger side rear arch has started to bubble, I don't know were I stand with this because when I collected the car the salesman said the car went to the local Audi dealership for the paint. Seems strange how the paint would have started to bubble again so quickly? Any advice on this would be much appreciated. I've taken the foam block out from behind the arch liner to stop it getting any worse, when I removed the the passenger side arch liner there wasn't a foam block the paint seems fine on that side.
