Just thought id upload a picture of my hard today :)
I read that far and then i got extremely worried... :scared:
Well done its looking alright, however no dis-respect but if all you have done is wash it (albeit correctly) i'm not sure in this forum it will necessarily go down as 'hard work'. It's a decent start but if you haven't done anything to protect it then your efforts so far are going to be wasted the next time it rains, or even just going for a drive - i recommend you seal it with either a sealant or a wax but there are other procedures you can do to get your car's paintwork in tip-top shape before you even get the wax on wax off stage! :happy2:
Have a read of Jay's detailing guide or the official detailing guide stickied to the top of this forum to get an idea of what's involved with some full-on hard work when detailing your car - you don't have to dive in and do them all to begin with, choose the stuff you think you can handle, give it a go, pick up your confidence and before you know it you'll be a full on all day detailing your motor addict!

Hard work.....holy sh*t!!! - Must have been all of 20 mins
I washed, clayed, washed, machine polished, glazed, sealed and add thin coat of wax today. Then dressed the tyre and polished my tips.
5 hours later I was knackerd.
PS: you really need some trim restorer on your GTI grille to make it same colour as you black badge.

Haha I normally just take it to the car was so this a little bit of work for me today, I know about the grill, whys the best to use for it ?
-
well good on you for having a go :happy2:
As i recommended have a look at the stickied threads at the top of this forum.
As for the grill, have a read through this thread: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,82501.0.html

now thats how you clean a car properly mate :happy2:
and to be fair, 5 hours is quite quick, i can lose a full day on my car being OCD about every little bit, but its suprisingly pleasing when all the hard work is done :congrats:
if your not into polishing and waxing (as some people arent) i recommend AutoGlym LifeShine, do it once and then you can go back to just the bucket and sponge method for a while

Any suggestions on a quality trim restorer?

Just like to say after reading jays guide, and a trip to halfords, I bought meguiars paint restoration kit for £40 spent about 4 hours on the car today. I washed, clayed, then used the ultimate compound what came in the kit then finally a thin coat of wax, took loads of pics but I don't think pictures do much to show how clean it is. More than pleased with it, all the swirls have gone off my bonnet!

Stunning, got to love the reflection you can get on a black car. :)

Lookin good. Nice shine on there. I got a few hours today to give my GTs a good going over. It got washed and leathered down then I used some of that auto glym rain off on the side windows.
I'm not going to be waxing or polishing the paintwork yet as I'm still in the process of touching in the paint chips then t-cut and finally a good polish. I need to get some ally wheel cleaner as the brake dust on them is quite difficult to remove, plus the tar spots are getting all over the car.
