Post by: lee_vrs on June 29, 2014, 10:46:30 pm
I know it's not a golf but I hope some one could possibly help  I have a octavia vrs bwa engine code
There I'd a noise coming from the engine once hot it's there at idle and when the revs drop from being revved stationary

A little more info is needed.

What sort of noise? How long has it been present? Any loss of power? Everything functioning correctly?

seems to be a rotational noise increases and decreases with revs no loss in power
Only occurs when hot did the video work?

Video doesn't show mate . I would be keen to hear it and compare with mine . I'm new to VW and GTI so founding the engine sound quite loud . Seems like the direct injection system ticks along loudly and well for mine

There's a known issue with the timing chain on the opposit side of the engine bay (gearbox side, looking from front) which makes the engine sound faulty. There's little you can do other than rip the engine out and replace it, which is expensive and difficult. It's just something to get used to I'm afraid.

It's like a dull rotational tap almost you can hear it on the video

Would this chain be back of the engine or to the right side of engine ?

I can't hear anything abnormal there but maybe my car hasn't done much . I can hear to long from the front which it think it's injector . But I can hear some almost like rattle noise that comes and go inside the car . Maybe it's similar to what you are experiencing ?

For the noise from left side, I was thinking maybe something to do with cambelt, water pump or any of the followers ? For me the sound seems to come from underneath or deep down some where ... It's just during idle

If you listen closely you can here it as the revs drop

I can't still watch the video . Can you hear it inside the cabin ? I have this rattling noise which comes inside the cabin close to front passenger side . It's like a rattling that comes and goes every couple of seconds. It's audible when stationary.
