Title: Noise When turning steering wheel.
Post by: VidalsGTI on June 30, 2014, 11:59:42 pm
Mk 5 GTI: I can hear a noise when turning steering wheel ( both ways) not high pitched like power steering. it seems to be coming from steering column in bonnet or so.

Any one have an idea what it could be?

Is it like a whining sound? Not very loud but there? If so... Its a common thing on them. Pre 07 had a recall on them to have a new steering rack but didnt always sort the noise. VW told me it was nothing to worry about... Oddly!

It moving slowly and going round a sharp corner that needs full lock I get a sound that I can only describe as a wooing noise. Has always done it and my old MK4 used to as well. Never been an issue.

Got it checked out, Turns out to be the bearing above the shock absorber driver side. Got it booked in. Fingers crossed that will be the end of that.
