Ok so I bought a Mark5 GTI the other day, Aircon wasn't blown cold air. I took it to get gassed and was told after fill up it wasn't a gas issue. So get it checked out and its being 2 days and they can't find the fault. latest diagnosis is compressor, new one going in tomorrow.
Anyone experience this before?
Any advise

It's a pretty common fault on Mk5 Golfs. Compressor failed on my GTi the day i bought it and same thing went on my Father-in-law's bog standard Golf about a year ago.
Plenty of other forumites have fallen foul of this issue i'm afraid.

Yep dead common and always affects loads of people this time of year. VW refuse to admit its caused by a manufacturing defect so it's an expensive and annoying fix.

Yep Put in a 2nd hand compressor, parts and Labour = £300.
Feels good having the aircon tho.

My golfs aircon wasnt working and was told by halfords no pressure so got it serviced etc and flushed with a dye and found nothing. Took back to halfords they said again not working we can't do it.
Took it to an audi garage done it fine and it works luckily.
My mates year old bluemotion golfs compressor is away on it already aswell, hes just left it though.

I had my compressor done last year too. I am amazed if you could do the repairs incl. parts for just 300£. My repair (which fortunately the seller agreed to pay fully) cost around 1500 pounds (or 2000€, I live in Finland) including a new compressor, condenser and something else I can't remember. Because the garage gave a warranty for their job they said they needed 8 hours of work including flushing the system carefully at least 3 times in case any metal particles from the old broken compressor might still be in circulation.
