Title: Josh's reflex Gti (sold) mk2 Leon Cupra (present)
Post by: Joshryan on July 03, 2014, 07:49:03 pm
Hi everyone I'm fairly new on here just sold my e46 m3 and needed a more sensible daily, I previously had an 07 dsg r32 and fancied another mk5.

Here's the old m3

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb634%2FJoshryan22%2Fimage_zps48baf82a.jpg&hash=3676bf8d50acd36fa8c41c7e5663bbebab7b6b6d)

And the old r32
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb634%2FJoshryan22%2Fimage_zps18e44e67.jpg&hash=58ad704b4fd64b5a98d6a60ab9c719c22fa5a862)

So here's the gti...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb634%2FJoshryan22%2Fimage_zps0b1e9b0d.jpg&hash=485f4e62c37ddb2d91c46ac997c7b9690d2bd76f)
55 plate

3dr manual gti

76'000 miles

Full leather xenons

It came already colour coded which was a bonus.

I'm really happy with it. Really surprised I prefer it to the r32.

Anyway this is me trying to save money and be sensible!

I've done a few things upto now first being a stage 1 remap at more-BHP in Crewe, Jason and Mike highly recommended, these guys are perfectionists I've never had service like it! They had it on the rolling road 3 times and then The ramp to check the diverter valve and actuator until they were happy with the results. They explained how they vary depending on engine code etc anyway the end results were

242bhp / 387nm.

Next thing I did was invested in some lowering springs I searched ebay for the lowest available and found 55mm springs and I was on a budget so these will do for now until I get some coilovers, this is how it sits now...

Next up I put an intake on, I couldn't decide on an autotech intake because i read a few reviews about maf reading problems and I didn't want to spend £3-400 on an intake!

So I called forge and ordered the maf sensor pipe with dv blanking plate for k03 (from the twintake kit) which is 2.75 inch

The turbo is 2.25 inch so I ordered a 2.25/2.75 silicone boost pipe reducer

A 2.75/3" reducer for the other end of the maf pipe

2x 3" alloy boost pipes

2x 3" 90 degree silicone boost pipes

And finally I found a k&n cone filter 3" fitment

Costing me around £120 for everything and the reassurance of the correct maf reading from the forge twintake kit.

To say it was abit of a guess ordering the parts it all fits perfect! And a noticeable power increase so I'm very happy with how it worked out.

To do list:

3" decat downpipe

S3 intercooler

Stage 2 remap ( will be going to more-BHP again )

Maybe bbs lm's or team dynamic pro race 1.2s.

Sorry for all the pics!!! Can't help it!

Il keep updating as and when.

A few more pics trying snowfoam for the first time

Sweet !

I've also got a 55 reflex silver Golf!

The ride height looks awesome.

Apart from not getting over big speed bumps is there a big diff to the ride quality?

Also are they 17s or 18s?

Hiya mate yes it is a lot harder to be honest, also 18s at the moment. Have you got a build thread?

Oh a lot harder dosnt sound great. :surprised:

I'll maybe keep saving for my coilovers.
I had FK on my mk4 and my old classic bug was slammed :)
Now I have a daughter to pick up from nursery so springs are not top of my list.

No build thread just yet as I've only had her a few months.

You car looks sweet though so low !

I'm thinkin FKs in the near future I wish I'd waited instead of rushing it!

Il keep an eye out for your reflex silver gti when you start a thread mate.

So a few parts arrived in the post today, I needed to replace the front lower grill after some birds decided to fly straight through it!

So I ordered open fog light grills and yellow tint film for the fog lights whilst I was doing it all.

Also the upper grill was looking very dull so I decided to paint it gloss black to clean up the front, anyway I ended up doing the badge black and the new grills also.

It's kept me busy for the afternoon! Let me know what you think...

My downpipe arrived the other day, it's a 3" decat I was going to have ago at fitting it myself but I don't think there's enough clearance on axle stands so I took it to my local garage to fit, he charged me £40 to fit including a sleeve and 2 clamps to join to the standard rear section.

What a huge difference it's made to performance you can tell how restricted it was! The noise isn't overly different driving steady but on full chat it sounds great! So it's now stage 2 ready but I don't know weather to wait and spend the money I would remapping it on an intercooler and them map it in a few months.

Also changed my rev D to a rev G but I haven't noticed a difference so I now have a spare. Here's a few more pics...

Just a quick update.

I wasn't very happy with how tatty my steering wheel was looking a fellow member recommended using a hot damp towel to remove all of the surface grease, so I did this then I found some autoglym leather cleaner that's been in my cupboard for a few years I used that to finish it off and these are the results...

Before
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb634%2FJoshryan22%2Fimagejpg1_zps1f127ab3.jpg&hash=c3f4468f7a48268ccb05bf060b95660948d2a55a)

After
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb634%2FJoshryan22%2Fimagejpg2_zpsc5df7a37.jpg&hash=1deb402846557fa68b052ca765d8eae1993101b0)

Pleased to say it only took 10 minutes to do.

Next up my car was covered in tar so I spent a couple of hours on this followed by T-cut then followed by a polish with autoglym super resin polish.

It looks so much better definitely worth doing

Just bought some normal tint spray off ebay for about £4.50 only just enough though. And normal laquor, the finish wasn't great to start with but I Used abit of T-cut and they turned out pretty good.

Silver wasn't my first choice but with the milage spec and price it was right at the time, it's just on springs at the moment but I'd recommend short adjustable drop links otherwise it doesn't feel like the anti roll bar is doing anything!

Just trying to make it look and preform the best I can with a tight budget.

It's not bad at all really. The front is much better now I have shorter drop links on.
I was suprised how much it dropped on the springs.
Gonna try some wheel spacers out soon.

Thanks mate,
Just ordered discs pads and braided lines, got new centre caps to go on which il do at the same time whilst the wheels are off.

Just doing bits and bobs as I go along no real plans just yet! Would like some nice wheels soon but too much choice.

I've just replaced the front tyres and the front o/s caught over dips at low speed, it turns out it was the screw that holds the inner arch in at the top so I removed the screw and tucked the arch liner above the locater and it's never done it since.

Quick update,

A few things I've done recently,

First my brakes were awful so I ordered the m-tech drilled and grooved discs with mintex pads, they have made a huge difference! Also got the Hel braided lines to fit next week so I'm looking forward to more stopping power!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fb634%2FJoshryan22%2Fimagejpg1_zpsadc46837.jpg&hash=24875bbd03f85dc56cb2c67f573ed28eb5cd3f0f)

Next I removed my front splitter which was ready for some paint after catching it on a low curb.

I separated the lower centre piece and painted it black, and used vw reflex silver rattle cans off ebay, laquered and polished.

Very happy with the finished result.

Also a pic of my intake I made using the forge Maf pipe. I did this a while ago just forgot to add pictures. Excuse the dirty engine bay!

No mate just the budget mintex pads. I'm going the try ebc yellow stuff pads out next month.

I didn't notice much difference over standard with the mtec discs, they look nice though and didn't crack with some fairly hefty abuse.

I've also tried the Yellowstuff pads, they were slightly better than standard but not much tbh; personally I'd go straight for Ferrodo DS2500 or Mintex M1144. :happy2:

Maybe I think they perform much better because the old discs n pads were that past it brake fade was dangerous! I would like ds2500 or m1144s but the price! If you didn't notice a big difference in the yellow stuff pads I might give them a miss then! Cheers for the advice mate.  Hope I notice a difference in the HEL braided lines.  :driver:

Small update. New wheels fitted this week, 18" Team dynamic pro race 1.2s thanks to tejinder.
We did a deal on my monzas in swap for them, nice to meet a fellow member.

Anyway a few pics fitted they are et45 so they've saved on purchasing wheel spacers! And also redone the rear lights as I wasn't happy with the finish. Comments welcome...

Personally i prefered the monzas, gave the car a much cleaner newer look imo.

How are the new brakes holding up? Need to do mine but really cant decide whether ro go for standard or not

I was in two minds about the monzas because they were so clean, i just got bored and fancied trying a few different things! I will get some more after winter. I do like the more aggressive look of the pro races then again I did like how the monzas kept it more oem.

The brakes are so much better I feel confident with them, still got the Hel lines to go on so that should be enough for road use. I'd recommend them for a cheap upgrade.

Thanks mate, I ordered a 200ml rattle can which was small so I used the whole can. I was worried they would be too dark but I don't think they look too bad, I did put 8 coats of laquor on so I could wet n dry then t-cut to get the best finish I could. I will buy genuine ed30/r32 lights eventually.

I agree mate I think 1.2s suit most cars, much lighter when I picked them up I nearly threw them in the air ha! They sit abit wider than the monzas about 6mm I think so handling feels a little bit better.

Another update, got a few things done on the gti last week ready for Croft track time.

It was a great day and a good turn out, anyway here's a list of things I got done with pics...

Oil and filter change

Ngk platinum plugs

Ferodo rear pads

Hel braided lines

Continental front tyres

Tracking done

N/s drop link

Check Dv

Adjust the exhaust to get the tips to sit nice and flush

Clean and enjoy!

What a difference this has made the brakes actually feel like they have stopping power, and the engine feels so much healthier and seems to boost stronger.

Glad my old build thread gave you ideas  :happy2: I sold my eddy a few months back and bought something cheap to run around in as were buying our first house but now I want a mk5 again and if I bought a ed30 again I'd compare it to much to the old revo one so I'll build a k03 gti this time round  :innocent:

What's next for this mate ?

Bilstein dampers are meant to be very highly rated with H&R springs or eibach springs mate :happy2: I have found a fully loaded gti with a few silly mod's that I will take of and sell like dished wheels and other bits that ain't my thing but I need to sell my civic first. I had 2 time wasters Sunday and 1 on Saturday so fingers crossed for 4th time lucky because then I can go get my ass back in a gti

I'm gonna go for bilstein dampers I've decided, I will try them on my current springs as they've only done around 1000miles but i don't want to put to much stress on the dampers with 55mm springs!

I hate time wasters good luck selling the civic mate.

Good choice mate :happy2: what springs are they at -55?. Dsg mate saves all that £1M clutch nonsense, plus I've always fancied dsg at some point. Little_dave's s3 took me out for a quick spin to MaccyD's and the gear change was unreal. Yeah that's what I'm going on, best spec and price instead of just plain spec and red for example. Just hpi'd the gti and it's got outstanding finance on it.

The springs are called LO, i had an 07 r32 Dsg last year and I do wish I had it now! So easy to live with and the noise was addictive! That's a shame did the owner not advertise it or expecting you not to know about it? Looking forward to seeing what you choose.
Arnt you gonna miss the performance of the eddy though?

The end of next week on payday. Not sure when il get time to fit them il keep you updated.
Love the speedlines but I'd rather stick with 18s for everyday use, there was some 18" speedlines on here not long ago for around £300.

Cracking looking GTI, very tempted to get some Team Dynamics like yours at some stage for my car. They look great against the silver paint work in that colour.

So it's been nearly 2 years since I sold my mk5 gti and I've been itching to get an edition 30 for quite some time. Anyway I was searching for a few weeks with an S3 8p in mind also and I've purchased a 2007 Mk2 Leon Cupra 240 in inferi black and I love it! Anyway I'm going to start a new build thread with my progress so far, here's the Cupra.
