After helping to sort my sister with sister with a new battery, my attention is focusing on my ED30.
My battery is the OEM Varta Battery fitted from the factory so is now 7 years old:

Ive noticed that it takes a couple of turns before it fires up when starting. Coupled with the fact that the little inspection window looks clear which according to the manual means its time to replace the battery:

You reckon its best change the battery now due to its age and condition?
Im thinking about changing to the Bosch S5 007 battery which a few members already have.
Thanks

You won't go wrong with this varta one that comes with a 5 year warranty.

btw the inspection eye goes colourless even in an ok battery around 4 years of age.

Bosch S5 only £82 via EuroCarParts on eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bosch-S5-Car-Battery-Type-096-With-5-Year-Manufacturers-Warranty-/230990151109?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35c815fdc5)
TBH I think the Bosch and Varta are exactly the same battery, just rebranded.

I recently got the E44 delivered for about £70 as my original battery was showing signs of dying.
Starts up better now too.

Another vote for the Varta Silver which bacillus linked to above. I've been away for about 5 weeks and car started first time.

Took delivery of a new Bosch S5 007 Battery today. Got it from carparts4less for £77 delivered!
Fitted it this evening and it felt a little rough on start up. This will be due to the ECU having to re-learn all its values. I will drive it a couple of days and report back.

Ordered one yesterday and it arrived today, completely transformed my cars start up. Although the old one was truly knackered, and it should have been changed before now.
BTW the CP10LESS code still works :pomppomp:

I picked up a VW Economy battery (now made by Exide) £55 inc VAT, dad is running one in his Audi also can't fault them

Hi guys,
In the market for a new battery for my mk5 fsi 2007... looking at the op's pic, my current varta is probably the original?
Does anyone know the oem code out of interest? I've got my eye on a Bosch S5005. Slightly shorter in length than what's in there now but that's not a problem is it?
Thanks.

That replacement battery your looking at only provides 63Ah, I replaced mine last week with a https://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/s5-008-bosch-car-battery-12v-77ah-type-096-s5008.html#productCollateralTabs2 (https://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/s5-008-bosch-car-battery-12v-77ah-type-096-s5008.html#productCollateralTabs2) or you could go with a https://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/varta-e44.html (https://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/varta-e44.html) as it's the same other than in label... Both provide 77Ah...

Get an 096 sized battery

https://www.tayna.co.uk are a great company. :P

Just get anything that comes with a lifetime warranty and never pay for a new battery again
-
Thanks guys! Went for the Varta. 5 year warranty.
Can you even get lifetime guarantee ones?!

Not anymore it seems! I bought a Yuasa Black from Halfords in March 17, which came with a lifetime warranty. Just checked and it seems that offer has since been retracted! They don't sell the Black series anymore.
It was a £150 battery though. Not for everyone's pocket, but it's the last battery I'll ever need  Designed for 130,000 starts, or >15 years lifespan.
