What sort of job is it to remove the standard stereo on a mk5 golf gt tdi?
Been told it can be a bit of a headache but will have a go myself if it's not!
Thanks

Just to clarify which stereo do you want to remove? The title says mk5 but you say mk4 in the post?
If its the mk5, its not a headache. you just gotta watch that you dont break any clips. Im so used to it now i can whip out a radio in 10-15 mins.

Get some trim removal tools, t20 screwdriver and get stuck in. I found this video very helpful.

Yeah I will do and great video thanks! :happy2:

It's pretty simple, just watch those metal clips! What do you intend doing when having it out, replacing it, Bluetooth etc...

Be careful with the top vent as its a major source for rattles if it doesn't go back on properly!
-
also don't remove the hazard/airbag plug as you will get a fault and need it removing
-
Has anyone had any issues replacing the top part of the centre vent?
It all came off and back on again with no problems except the last bit, the front won't stay down, the back sits flush but for the life of me I can't get the front sorted!

Is this where the rubber tray sits in?. In my experience if the front isn't sitting down or one side is higher than the other it means one or two of the clips isn't in right or isn't in at all. You should have found two clips at the back of the tray when your removed it, they sort of hold it down in place.
Sent from my iPhone that has issues.. Reception issues...

Only if you turn the ignition on with it unplugged.
