So inspired by a couple of cars I saw at inters I'm toying with the idea of putting a Mk6 front end on my Mk5...
In terms of parts I'm assuming it would be wings from the Mk5.5 estate, Mk6 GTI bumper, standard Mk6 bonnet/ headlights and presumably the carrier? I'd imagine all of these could be sourced used to keep costs down.
Could finish it off by removing the side strips from the doors and cherry red r32/ ed30 rear lights. Aiming for an OEM look.
Any opinions welcome :happy2:

One question, why??
-
This has been done before. I saw photos about a year ago somewhere.
It'd be cheaper to just trade the mk5 for a mk6, although I assume you know that, so you must just be a pervert.

+2...
Why not trade in yr mk5 & get a mk6....mk6 prices a falling mate

Ignore all the people being boring....
Asked the guy about it yesterday is a lot of work needs slam panel and subframe nodding new wings lights bumper and all parts to make them fit... Not a easy job but looks really good.
-
Best conversion like this I've seen is the scirocco nose on an eos. As for mk6 on a mk5 I don't really see the point as the cost of doing it you might aswell get a mk6

it's not a case of being boring. It is a good way to waste a couple of thousand on a conversion that won't make the car worth any more.

The OP asked for opinions. Some people have the opinion that it's a waste of money. I also have the opinion that it looks utterly sh*te as well.
-
I agree that the arguement for just opting for a mk6 instead is valid. But...
I too have considered this swap as then you keep the mk5 side and rear profile while getting the mk6 front end. Ultimately, the cost and loss of the stand out mk5 front end swung me in favour of keeping with the mk5 GTI front.
The other issue is that the wings have contour lines that do not match the mk5 at all and stand out a mile. You could have the wings modified to sit more flush with the mk5 body lines.

Look at the reflections in the bodywork in the above image, you can see the sharp change where the wing meets the body work.
-
I was toying with this idea seems like a lot of effort and cost :-/
-
Not for me, bit of an alien hybrid and yeah you'll be spanking many ££££ doing it but what else you gonna spend it on. Massive amount of bodywork required too I'd imagine inc bonnet, wings, headlights, bumper etc etc......

Do what makes you happy mate it's your car, your money. Fair enough asking an opinion but don't let it change your mind because say 10 people out of the billions in the world don't like it!
Everyone has different opinions when it comes to cars, I personally think air ride is stupid and so does probably 70% of modders out there but you never see air ride threads getting bombarded with sh*t comments
Just to make everyone happy ask which DV to use and zip tie a Pokemon from your rear tie hook just for "laughs" :P

Woah wasn't expecting that kind of response! Its only an idea which I thought was worth investigating if it can be done for a few hundred. Would freshen up the looks of the front end and I had been thinking of changing the wings and lights anyway for other reasons. If its huge amounts of effort then no probably not worth it
Also I don't know if people remember but VW officially put a Mk6 front on the Mk5 estate when they facelifted it, results weren't bad:

As for the price comparisons to an actual Mk6 GTI, its still £10k at the bottom end of the market - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201406295402921. That's double what my car is probably worth and I wouldn't particularly want one that age anyway due to the timing chain issue with the engine.
-
id find a car that had been in a front end bump if i was going to do it, looks awesome IMO
-
If you like it, go for it, its good to see someone trying something different. If you can get most parts secondhand, and know a half decent panelbeater that could flatten the swage line on the wings, it would look much better than the ones I have seen pictures of. Its the little details that make the difference
-
not worth it considering the expense
buy a mk6
-
The cost point of view, a carbon fibre bonnet and wings from Seibon would be cheaper, plus the wings give you 10mm extra arch (handy for lowered cars with bigger offset wheels). Not many people do the carbon fibre wings, few still leave them in the carbon gloss finish. Different and a hell of a lot of weight off the front end.
Perhaps I'm convincing myself as well here...
-
If that's what you wanna do then do it :happy2:
My mate (Tuk customs) done a whole mk5 mk6 conversion and it looked awesome.

Before all you people start hating this is his job and he done it so people can see what he's capable off. He did say it's a wanker and if you're looking to get the led lights there's a bit of wiring that needs changing.

that looks mint bar the small wheels
