My car has a message coming up on the computer: Service in XXX days or XXX miles. I have all the parts and will be doing so this week but how do I reset the service counter in the ECU without a vag-com? Thanks in advance for any help.

When the car is off, hold the reset button on the right side of the dash (0.0).
Then turn the key to turn ignition on (not the engine)
Once the 'service now' words show on the display, press the minute(m) button on the right.
That should turn the service indicator off.
Borrowed this from another forum:

FYI I think this re-set only works if your car is set to time & distance servicing, not the long-life regime.
I think this will be described more clearly in the owners manual if you have it?
Otherwise, see if there is someonel local with VCDS who can help, it only take a minute to do.

Thanks a lot, I'll try that when I do the service then and post up whether it worked.
