Title: Noisey Mk5 Engine
Post by: GolfGTI on July 07, 2014, 09:34:32 pm
Hi, just recently bought my first GTI but lately realised its awfully loud on idle. Actually sounds like a diesel!!! Is this normal or do i have issues?
Thanks

They all sound noisey.

Any distinctive knocks or bangs should cause you to be wary though..

It's the high pressure fuel pump, makes em sound like tractors on idle.

Sent from my iPhone that has issues.. Reception issues...

It isn't a particularly quiet idling engine, I wouldn't worry about it unless it's really obviously bad.

some aren't that quiet at low revs moving, let alone idle - there was a 1.4 fsi that did a 3 point turn at the end of our road, on hearing the tone of the engine noise along with audible rattle, i went to the window to see if it was the DPD delivery guy i was expecting, in his soot chucking van!
