Had my recall done just last week. Worth ringing up your local VW to find if your cars had it or not, nice free swap so no excuse not to.

Breeze used to be my local when I had my mk2 on the road, they were always pretty good to deal with, going back 5 years or so though.

A recall is normally a free service, as it's the company way of ensuring that mistakes made in production are fixed so the customers stay loyal. They aren't always free, it depends on the impact the item being recalled has. Something like coil packs is pretty important so VW will do it free.

Recalls are either free or they will pay a percentage of the final bill.

Maybe your phrasing it as a recall is where the problem is.

As far as I know recalls are for safety related items and can be found on th VOSA website.

Try asking for Technical Bulletins or Campaigns.

It was definitely phrased as a recall by the dealers I dealt with in Bristol (Heritage).

I'm not sure on how many cars the recall effects, could be a case of earlier year cars (mine is 05) that are due it.

Well it's not on VOSA so my guess is VW call it a Campaign.

So wouldn't it show up when dealer put the VIN in their system for any outstanding matters? Or it is something that is recorded differently ?

Not a recall, but a campaign. Found the following off another forum:

Quote
For the 2.0 TFSI the affected engine codes:

AXX-BGB-BHZ-BPG-BPJ-BUL-BWA-BWE-BWT-BYK-BYD

Ignition coils with part number- 07K 905 715F, 07K 905 715D, 06H 905 115, 06F 905 115F do NOT need replacing as they are not affected if your ignition coil isnt one of the above part numbers they will be replaced with the revised part 07K 905 715F

thanks mandy, knowing how to phrase things and having the correct information to hit them with is half the battle.

Is there a. Site which can decide the VIN and gives all these details without the need to go to local dealer . I found my local dealer to feel it's such a hassle to give me details about my car.. So want to be independent from them haha
