As the other was deleted... Don't listen to all the k04 boys on here their life is easy.
If you're tuned k03 and want reliability then the rev d is the better option, is does leak, slightly, resulting in a few BHP and lb/ft after I did back to back VCDS runs... The rev g splits over time on tuned k03 with its location so close to the turbo..
I've split 2 rev g's and the original rev b, back to a rev d now as cant be assed to keep doing it, scanning to mke sure, then as you've got to jack the car on k03 and/or through the wheel arch (liner out) its just another pita about the car.... on k04 a child could do it.
So full boost Rev G with having to replace every year at least, depending on your mileage, I do 20k ish.
Slightly less boost Rev D, fit and forget.

It wasn't deleted it was locked.
There are quite enough threads on here which explain the differences.
-
Ive still got a D on my KO4, as you say fit and forget, and what difference will I feel from fitting a G? None I would guess
-
Holds boost better and has a better seal an makes more noise if your into that. Mines been on 2years and is fine. My rev d was on less than a year before it failed and mines a standard ko3, so the d is not fit and forget.
Just pick one and check it at service and change when needed.

No errors with the D as far as I know. I fitted the D to replace a badly ripped b and there was an instant improvement. After about 8months the car just didn't feel right, it didn't pull like it did and felt down on power, I'd only done average miles and mixed driving.
At the next service I got Alex to put a G in and there was again an instant improvement, probably not as much as B to D but it was back to how it should be. Now it's starting to feel a bit off again and occasionally I can hear the usual whistle you get when it tears so it's lasted 20months with mixed driving and average miles.
I could've just had a duff rev D or it just gradually leaked more overtime but from my experience I'd always go for a G and treat it as a serviceable item

I've read on here that rev G is the best to get, I also heard a lot of people switched to the rev G as it was claimed to be slightly louder?
my mate has the B dv on his golf and his makes a slightly more turbo tss when driving... I'm not after big noise by the way just asking why the B is louder on his GTI than the G on my GTI anyone know?, or could it be something else causing this and not the dv? I also think his turbo spools a lot faster and gives you more of a kick when you boot it, and less lag, don't know why that is either.
-
The G does make more noise than the D but I can't see the G making more noise than the B as it's probably just a different type of rubber for the diaphragm
-
Niki at R-Tech recommends the g for a reason he has tuned tonnes of tfsi and logs and reads every single car he tunes.
The research etc. Has already been done lol
-
I think a lot is down to maps and how hard the turbo is worked as to how hot the turbo gets. Mine was stage 2+ on a Shark Performance map and I had no issues at all with the G. The D was okay for a while when I fitted it; but they do leak and are not a good design for use on the K03. I used to check mine when doing the service as its easy to remove when already on the jack.
-
thanks people, I really want to get mine mapped... it does feel quick for a standard 200bhp, its had the ECU update (not sure if that could make a difference) ive read online, some people have claimed to have got 20% more bhp from the update, just hope it hasn't been mapped already...
-
So I have a D in my R probably been there from day one and you guys recommend I change to a G? Or go all out and buy GFB DV+?
-
^^^^ G for you.
DV+ is :stupid:
-
Will give it a try then might aswel change the Pcv while I'm on
-
Ordered my DV today from VW, was told they only do the Rev G. £40.72 in VAT.
Took mine off at weekend after reading on here, and would you believe it, small pencil sized hole in it.
Just hope it makes a difference, as currently a bit disappointed by the performance of it.
-
^^^^ Usually feels like you've just had your car mapped once you replace a shagged DV.
-
are they easy to get at? need to check mine...

Depends if you've got a KO3 (normal gti) or a KO4 (ed30)
-
normal GTi..KO3 presumambly

I've just rang my dealer to get the G version and was told they only do a D now?? As it's superseded
-
I've read nothing more than G is the best dv to have fitted, happy to have one on my GTI, very easy to change (3 hex bolts) once you know were to locate your arms around the bottom of the car its pretty simple just fiddly lol, there is a few Rev G on eBay.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dump-valve-VW-Golf-VW-Jetta-1-4T-2-0T-06F-145-710G-/261526153668?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3ce42c69c4

My dealer told me the same thing. I bought one from http://www.germanautopartsdirect.co.uk/index.html for about £40.
-
No worries they have ordered one in from somwhere else. Got a new oem Pcv as well for piece of mind.
-
all good then :happy2:
-
are they easy to get at? need to check mine...
Having changed/checked mine (KO3) by scrambling around underneath and by going in through side, I recon its much easier to remove the wheel, unscrew the wheel arch shield and there it is in front of you!
And when you have the shield off you can remove the accumulated mud and leaves from the wheel arch as well. A coat of waxoil on the exposed surfaces and all good for another year or 2.
I could do the job in 1/2 hr now I know where all the screws and fixings are.

Fitted mine today, WOW, what a difference!
I had a pencil sized hold in mine, but it is a completely different car now, best £40 I have spent in ages.
Was told by VW they only do the G now.
I am no mechanic by any means, its not hard, just fiddly being under the car with not huge room to work in, but ultimately its just 3 X5 mm allen key bolts and a clip. Practice on a clip in the engine bay before hand, makes it much easier under the car.
Those who haven't checked, do it, feels like it has 30BHP more than before
