Title: Help! Golf not wanting to start!
Post by: davep84gti on July 18, 2014, 02:06:06 pm
Hi all, anyone have any idea's as to whats wrong with my gti??

So heres what happens....

I go to start the car as normal.... the engine turns as it should and the engine starts, seconds later it cuts out with no warning lights or anything. Try to restart it then the engine turns over but doesn't start!
If you leave it for 10 minutes or so with the ignition on it 9 times out of 10 starts up as normal and is absolutely fine for weeks and then happens all over again!

As above or the fuel filter has never been changed would be my first thoughts.

Open and close the drivers door a few times and listen for the pump priming the system - remember the fuel filter on the GTI is not a service change item so could be the original!

so if i hear no priming then its the tank pump??

Check the fuse for the LP Fuel pump

Also check the wiring to the LPFP

Is the lpfp priming, you should hear a noise if you open the driver's door.
I would also change your fuel filter if you haven't already done so.

Have you tried to replace low pressure thrust sensor yet vw part #06E906051J, but also might need hpfp replaced too..   Im taking you checked the 20 amp fuse for lpfp and wiring..hope you get it sorted mate..

having a new sensor fitted today, and I've ordered a new cam follower aswell. I really hope this sorts it out as its nearly time for Trax and can't be having a dodgy car driving up there from plymouth lol

well..... its not the sensor :(

dont know wether its me or not but I'm sure every time it happens the Lightbulb out light is on.. and i also noticed this time the ESP light on the switch was illuminated... I'm now thinking I've got a wiring problem! :/

some ones just said to me it sounds like the valves burnt out due to excessive carbon build up...
could it be carbon build up??
My local garage has a Terraclean machine which removes all this carbon stuff.. worth a try?

Well well well......... seemed to of fixed the problem.. replaced a light bulb that kept flicking on and off all the time and then unplugged the battery for a hour or so. 12 days on and hasn't cut out once!! :) :happy2:  :driver:
