Im looking for a gti for around 5-6k, I know this sort of money wouldnt stretch to a ed30, But after scouring Autotrader, Pistonheads etc Its not a full gone conclusion as to what i could expect to find for that sort of money, Any ideas on to what would be 'About right' for this budget?

Welcome mate, for around 5-6k you should be able to get a decent spec'd GTI or previously damaged Edition 30 (Cat C/Cat D). :happy2:
-
Thanks pal, Yeah i would be looking for a standard Gti over a ED30
Purely for insurance reasons. Still on the hunt for the perfect one, i would be hoping for one
On around 70/80k

Welcome mate.
Join the club. Im after a standard 3 door manual, hopefully in black with the same miles or lower. Have a little bit (not much more) to spend.
Ive been looking for a few months now :sad1: Happy hunting.

Yeah, thats exactly it, its a waiting game for the right one to come along.

It's a waiting game.
You sometimes have to travel for the right car I've found...unless you are lucky! I'm in Ipswich too and had to travel to find mine.
Good luck with the search though. :happy2:

Yeah ive seen theres quite a few of us from suffolk, Where abouts in ipswich are you? Pm if you like.

There is red one for around £6500 in Long Stratton at a dealer, it's been sitting there for at least six weeks so you should able to get it down in price. No idea what it's like, I just drive past it twice a day going to work and back. :)
-
Yeah ive seen that, Down to 6k now aswell. Only problem for me is that its a
5 door. Shame actually because car is in mint condition.
Cheers for the heads up though pal.

There is a grey 3 door, 55 reg, 75k at £6750 in Diss at Merelanders. He is a reasonable dealer, I bought my GTi from him in 2011
-
Thanks for the headsup SeaV Ill give it a look :happy2:

Don't worry theres hope. I spent just over a month looking for one in similar price range it can get frustrating and thankfully one popped up which i paid 6k for. 3 dr 05 plate with 72k and came with all the factory extras which was a bonus so with your budget and mileage expectations you'll get a nice decent golf. But be quick to snap up the right one because they don't hang around for long. Best of luck

Saying that mines metallic blue haha

Merelanders buy up trade ins from main dealers. My GTi had 67k on it with fsh when I bought it in 2011.
It now has 108k on it, and I've had to change cam belt £299, replace passenger airbag £275 (only because I argued with the garage as it was going to be £800+), replace aircon condenser, switch and compressor (£900), replace high level rear brake light (£110), have headlights polished (£110), 2 new wings (courtesy of VW) plus the usual wear n tear (tyres, wipers, oil etc).
Lovely car, but not that cheap to maintain once the mileage starts building up, especially if you can't do these things yourself.
Definitely worth hanging on for the right car to come along - they are just unique :)
