Title: Rcd510 help
Post by: Mickmk4 on July 27, 2014, 12:45:54 pm
I'm thinking about buying an rcd510 and been reading about the battery drain issue. How can I find out if I need to change the gateway or not? Any help will be appreciated

Thanks
Mike

I forgot to mention it's a jan '07 edition 30 with a highline computer and MFSW  :happy2: (if that helps at all)

From what I've read you should be OK with 2007  :happy2:

Borderline OK anyway. Somewhere in 2007 is when they changed to the K revision gateway, which is the one required, I believe.

Would there be anyway I could check what revision my gateway is? It has the later style buttons on the steering wheel from what I've seen also, that could mean they also changed the gateway which would be nice.

A diagnostics scan with VCDS will tell you what revision your gateway is.

I have revision K from March 07  No drain when fitting RCD510 DAB  As said vcds scan will reveal your gateway revision

Yeah you're very much on the borderline of whether or not it will support it. As above there is no way of telling other than either removing the gateway or doing a VCDS scan. Its only on the 2008MY cars which you can say for sure that it will have a newer gateway.

Well the only kind of vagcom I have is a cheap ebay cable and that won't read the car so it's now in the bin. I searched for an hour looking for the canbus to get a part number and I could not find it, it's certainly not where it appears to be in the pictures I've seen anyway, I can see a red plug behind a wall of relays but that's about it and to get to that would mean I have to take off half the bottom bit of the steering column at least. Does this sound right? I'm going to ask about and see if there is anybody who would scan it for me and just hope it doesn't need changing.

This is the best way for my money to change the gateway

Other people seem to be more flexible and have fingers with eyes in the end but me!

That's a brilliant thread on r32oc. If I can not find anyone with vcds near me then I'll be doing this once the tool for removing the wipers is bought. Appreciate all the help you guys have given me  :happy2: will update once I know what it is just for the people who are curious. And hopefully my post count will will be near ten so I can get in touch with nads about his crud and Bluetooth for sale as he is not to far from me.

I should think so. I've not done it, but there's a guide on here somewhere I think.

I can't pm you or even email you as it's hidden. Could you email me your number (I'm sure my email is visible) and I'll contact you to arrange a time if that's ok?
