Title: spare key
Post by: matt_the_mussel on July 27, 2014, 06:19:06 pm
Just been into the local Timpsons to find out how much a spare key would be....£140 for a remote key fob or £95 for a non-remote. They would have to order in the part and it would take an hour or so to do.  Am I guna be better off buying a refurbed one of fleabay, getting it cut then see if a stealer will code it?
Anyone know what there charging at the minute and how much hassle it is to code?

You can get them on ebay with the gubbins in them, can you not just get the dealer to re-code it and get a new key cut?

Some dealers won't code a key they didn't supply. Either because they're just stuck in their ways and won't do it because they can say "No!", or because their company policy is not to code parts supplied by the customer.

Hi Guys,

I just bought a complete blank key online with all the guts, I made sure to order the correct frequency ("J" which is 315MHz) got it cut and I tried following guides online to program the keyless entry (key in door, lock, press lock button etc) but couldn't get it to work.

Is VCDS required to program the keyless entry or did I get a dud remote? I know I need the immobiliser has to be done at a dealer but I thought I could the the keyless entry myself?

I'm in New Zealand, I planned on getting the local service agent to program the immobiliser when I take it in for a cambelt/DSG service in a couple of weeks, just want to check if I got sent the wrong frequency remote (there is no part number on the new one I bought from China).
