Title: rvc screen not working.
Post by: Kev on July 27, 2014, 07:44:34 pm
Hi ladys and gents I have retro fitted an rvc into my 2007 golf gti the camera pops out as it should but with no change to the rns screen,  when I go into the setup menu it is recognising the camera operating,  hope some one can shed some light on my issue.

This if I remember correctly this was the advice I was given:-

Programming Head Unit RNS 510
Using Vagcom/VCDS the headunit requires programming to tell it of the existence of a RVC.

Connect to controller 37 and in long coding under Byte 3 select Bit 6.

To complete the programming reboot the RNS 510. - press the left arrow button, right arrow button, and the star button all at the same time, and the RNS will reset and accept the changes.

Assuming the equipment is new or if second hand you bought it from a good source?

My first move would be rechecking the coaxial cable to the rear of the head unit and the boot connections as there's not a lot after that since the camera is popping out and you've coded it.

Hi yeah ive checked the lead at both ends only thing I get is when I go into setup and it says rvc on and off when putting it into reverse.

Sorry can't help you as I've never had no faults with the system and my install was trouble free.

May be Eddie-NL or Golfman may read this and offer some guidance!

Have you tried unticking the box with vcds, reboot the rns, tick again and restart the rns again and then try?

Yeah ive tryed that too, I have noticed tnight it only operates the central locking on the tailgait with the ignition on if I try unlock the car and try open the boot it stays locked unless the ignition is on, hope this sheds a tad of light on it.

I wonder if it is a coding / power issue. Get some in the boot to mess with the wiring whilst you hold it in reverse. Random question but have you got a reverse bulb in too? My plays up when the bulb is out. It works for a bit then turns off.

Thanks mate ill check my reverse light ive checked the coding as ed supplied that for me it cost me a lot so really need to sort it, I solded all the wiring in still carnt understand why it only works with the ignition on as it works off a permenant live.

I dont think it may be a power issue as you said the camera does flip open so the reverse signal is working.  May be the coaxial cable. I would trace the wire to ensure there arent any kinks in it anywhere.

Does the badge mech and the camera run off the same power source then? Or does the camera need another power source to turn it on? My camera didnt need a permenant feed but it is a bumper version

Had a problem like this and it turned out to be the 2760? firmware I had downloaded. Tried downloading from a different site and undated which solved the problem.  :happy2:

The camera needs a permanent so that you can use it to open the boot

when i had this problem it was because the yellow trigger wire on my loom wasn't making a good enough connection with the reverse light...

if it works of a switched live then you must have wired it to a switched live

Boot should open all the time
