So since day 1 I've hated my gear stick. It's old and dirty and standard leather cleaner never worked.
I was going to buy a new one but almost had a heart attack when VW gave me the price.
I'm sure this is common enough so does anyone know how to clean it up to a new enough state?
I would want to take all staining off the leather and possibly polish up the aluminium.
I'll go at it this weekend but hoping someone might be able to send me on some tips.

That's not dirty. That's worn. You can get kits to repigment the leather.
