Title: tapping noise when idle
Post by: mrggg on August 04, 2014, 12:54:23 am
Hi when Im at a stand still I hear a tapping noise which sounds like its coming from the drivers side somewhere. But as soon as I take my foot off the brake and clutch and put my foot onto the accelerator the noise disappears. Its getting annoying and I really want to know what it is before garages rip me off.. Any ideas??

Thank you.

Could be worn tensioner bearing or something if its engine related, or could be something silly like some metal on metal vibrating together, exhaust etc

I think the GTI engine ( none ed30) has the tapping noise . However each could be for different reason , but to me seems like the injector in these engine is quite noisy regardless. First I thought it was coming from the driver side ( right hand driver) but I noticed it's more in front.

Maybe you can record the sound and put a link so people can hear and help better :)
