Title: Windscreen steams up under heavy acceleration?
Post by: gtgeorge on August 04, 2014, 09:37:11 pm: Only had this GT Sport Tdi just over 2 weeks !

Sorted all the niggles but this one is baffling me, when i give it beans i get like 8 strips of steam up the windscreen more or less instantly, it then spreads to mist the whole screen up, i have to leave the blowers on number 1 to stop it happening?

Not leaking anything only other issues are turbo sounds like a siren but thats cause its a BKD 140 lump I guess, it had new intercooler hoses and intercooler before i bought it.

The stage 3 folks complain of this quite frequently!

Post by: SRC on August 05, 2014, 08:53:36 am: Some Golfs are more prone to windscreen misting than others but being caused by acceleration is a new one to me.

First, clean the windscreen thoroughly with a quality product and microfibre cloth.
Some recommend wiping washing-up liquid on the inside of the screen, leaving for a few minutes then wiping off.
Change your pollen filter.
Never switch off your ventilation - always have fresh (not recirculated) air flowing through the car.
Check your carpets, especially in the corners by doors and under the dash. Don't forget the boot. You're looking for water ingress.
After rain, run a tissue round the edge of the windscreen to check for a leaky seal.

Another tip from this forum is to switch the vents to feet only for a few minutes before switching off.

Its like something is forcing heat or something from up underneath the bonnet up the screen, oddly is the pattern, its in like 8 strips at the picture shows to a certain extent

Post by: JMP on August 05, 2014, 12:49:42 pm: If I remember correctly AC switches off when engine is trying to get full power. So all the available power goes to acceleration.

When i fitted my double din the other day, obviously removing all the trims I believe when i removed the heater dials the dial that controls whether it blows face, floor, screen etc the cable had become unclipped from the matrix in the back of the dash. Took it all apart reconnected it and now my middle heater blowers are working again aswell. touch wood!
