Title: Aftermarket springs on standard dampers?
Post by: 121207 on August 06, 2014, 03:43:09 pm
Wanted to know whether it could be done? Looking to replace the top mounts and dampers with OEM parts, would a set of aftermarkets springs be compatible? Don't have the funds just yet to purchase proper coilovers or the Koni FSD dampers as I have other mods planned but I desperately want to lower the car! :sad1:

Any help would be greatly appreciated chaps!

Yes you can, but eventually the dampers will throw their toys out of the pram.

For the time being, as long as it's do-able I don't mind tbh

Thanks Rich! :happy2:

Just wondering, how soon is eventually? Less than 5000 miles or more?

Depends on driving style mainly, if you put the suspension under constant stress then you'll get far less life. The catch is that stiffer springs will reduce the workload (additional to the constant strain the dampers are permanently under) so its a bit of pot luck.

Also look at getting Audi RS3/TTS top mounts. Not much more in cost but much better than VW OEM parts.
