Title: S3 or front mounted intercooler?
Post by: th3_f15t on August 07, 2014, 09:22:33 pm
While changing my oil, noticed my intercooler pipes look a bit degraded at the ends, so soon may need an upgrade. So as per the title, which would I be better with to suit a stage 1+ (maybe stage 2 later next year). Don't plan to run a cold air intake as I run a K03 and my panel filter does fine.

I'm at a similar stage to you and have decided after some research to get a forge twintercooler instead of an S3 one as supposedly that'll give better cooling due to mounting position and volume increase. Also I can't find any proof of extra lag that some people think they can cause. Most people are very happy with theirs.

Front mount sounds the way ahead. But do the pipes that connect up fit a stock intercooler or do they need an S3 or other upgraded intercooler?

They can fit any cooler I believe just tell the manufacturer which one you have and they should give you the correct pipes, I know 100% forge can do standard gti and S3 cooler connectors.

Thanks for that. Need to investigate my system now to see what the score is.
