Title: Side Skirt prep and paint cost?
Post by: Dave7692 on August 08, 2014, 04:11:00 pm
I bought some GTI side skirts for my golf and wanted them sanded down and painting to match the rest of the car.  I called up a local bodyshop and their initial quote was £250  :scared:

I was sure people were getting it done much cheaper than that, can anyone recommend a place in the Dorset area that could do it?

That is very steep. I paid 120 to have mine prep'd and painted. These were the textured gti ones too.

Thats what I thought, I'm gonna get a price from a different shop that a met has used to do some stuff on his golf so hopefully it will be cheaper.

If not I'll be prepping them myself, I guess its just a case of patiently taking the texture off with some wet & dry until they're nice and smooth then take them in for prime & paint.

youll never remove all the texture

you need to key with 180 grit, then plastic adhesion followed by high build primer, once dry sand with 400-800 depending on colour then paint and clear

we charge £70 per skirt for this

Thanks for the info Jake, just to clarify is that £70 per skirt for prep and paint or £70 just for prep with paint as an extra?

Also just in case you're relatively close where are you based?
